German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause , and the various contexts in which the prefix is not separated, such as with subordinating conjunctions and modal verbs.
The questions are all in German, and are differentiated, ranging in complexity and challenge. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with: these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and word order in German.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:

Students really benefit from focused practice with German separable verbs, particularly in more complex sentences which feature German modal verbs and / or German subordinating conjunctions for example. This set of Spanish conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for KS3 Spanish to KS4 Spanish students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
The questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of tenses such as preterite and conditional. I like to include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning.
Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in Spanish. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts.
I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to keep the conversation going.

Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids.
These sets are aimed at beginner Spanish to***advanced beginner Spanish*** students of all ages, focusing on 25 fruits and 25 vegetables in Spanish. The search grids include a range of masculine, feminine, singular, plural, definite and indefinite articles. This provides a really useful language learning opportunity, differentiating and increasing the challenge across the grids, and enabling students to engage with key grammatical concepts in Spanish from the beginning of their learning programme. This makes the activity more comprehensive and meaningful in terms of progressing language learning than a straightforward fruits and vegetables in Spanish vocabulary exercise.

Parole Intrecciate Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Italian, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. These sets are aimed at beginner Italian students of all ages, focusing on I giorni della settimana and I mesi e le stagioni dell’anno. The target vocabulary also includes words such as oggi, domani, il mese prossimo, and la prossima stagione to enable students develop their Italian vocabulary and to engage with gender agreement. Additionally, ordinal numbers primo, ultimo, secondo and so on, provide a really useful language learning opportunity, and increase the challenge in a number of grids. Students have to apply their broader knowledge of Italian in order to know which word to search for in the grid, for example ***il secondo giorno della settimana?***. This makes the activity more comprehensive and engaging than a straightforward days, months and seasons of the year in Italian vocabulary exercise.

Set 1: o’clock & half past the hour - students often find half past in German quite tricky, so the focused practice is particularly useful
Set 2: quarter to & past the hour

It’s useful to work with telling the time in German quite quickly with beginner German students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, discussing daily routines for example.
There are two questions: Wie spät ist es / Wie viel Uhr ist es? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Richtig oder falsch and students write either richtig or falsch - where the answer is falsch, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation.

Laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. Print each set on different colour paper if possible, as they are more easily organized.

Dominoes games are an ideal language learning activity, and a lively alternative to more traditional practice and consolidation activities. These games will help students build up and embed their knowledge of how to tell the time in Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino time sequence line. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading.
There are three games, each with a slightly different level of challenge:
= Challenge 1 features a range of clock times,o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour - students tend to learn those clock times first, so it’s good to have a real focus on them to ensure students are confident with the general concept of telling the time in Spanish. The dominoes feature en punto to express o’clock, but it’s useful to point out to students that it’s not absolutely necessary, and they’ll see Es la una for example, perhaps even more frequently than Es la una en punto, which tends to convey a certain emphasis. The time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face.
= Challenge 2 features a range of all analogue clock times, and is a slightly longer game than Challenge One. Again, the time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face.
= Challenge 3*** also features a range of analogue clock times, and is the same size as Challenge Two. In this challenge, the clock face appears first, followed by the time phrase, which works slightly differently on recall, and really does help to consolidate knowledge.
There’s definitely prep involved - download, print out, and laminate. Laminating is definitely worth the extra time and expense, because the dominoes are far more learner-friendly, and will last in excellent condition for years. The background design on each challenge is different, allowing students to identify which challenge the individual dominoes belong to.

A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing how to tell the time in Spanish, and for pronunciation practice too.
There are 8 clock faces per page. Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. Students can also set the cards on a table, so that they can see the timeline clearly. Playing in teams, against a time, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games.
There are two games, each with a different challenge:
= Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, Tengo… ¿Quién tiene…?
= Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, ¿Tienes…? Sí (No), tengo……

The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical German-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The recall and write challenges help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in German. Students can use their recall workbooks several times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep time and expense are kept to a minimum.
There are three written recall challenges in the workbook:
= Challenge 1 students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
= Challenge 2 with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category
= Challenge 3 the final challenge switches at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages
= Meine Notizen und Neuer Wortschatz encourages students to reflect on their learning and to note any new vocabulary they may learn

A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing how to tell the time in Spanish, and for pronunciation practice too.
There are 8 clock faces per page. Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. Students can also set the cards on a table, so that they can see the timeline clearly. Playing in teams, against a time, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games.
