PRIMARY SPANISH YEAR 7 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH MONTHS AND SEASONS OF THE YEAR WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS AND VOCABULARY LIST Files are non-editable in a zipped format. This product is copyright, all rights reserved. It is illegal to copy, rewrite, amend, share or distribute outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School / departmental licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set is aimed at beginner Spanish students of all ages, focusing on los meses y las estaciones del año. The word searches also include expressions such as el mes pasado and el mes que viene to broaden the range of relevant target vocabulary. Additionally, ordinal numbers primer-, último, segundo and so on, provide a really useful language learning opportunity, and increase the challenge in a number of grids. Students have to apply their broader knowledge of Spanish in order to know which word to search for in the grid, for example el tercer mes del año es.... This makes the activity more comprehensive and engaging than a straightforward months and seasons of the year in Spanish vocabulary exercise. The set features 10 differentiated word searches, with an increasing level of challenge. Grids 1-5 feature Spanish prompts and Spanish responses in the grid. Students also complete a list of corresponding translations in English for additional consolidation. Grids 6 & 7 feature questions in Spanish such as enero : ¿el mes que viene? or ¿la primera estacioÌn del año? and students have to work out that they are seeking febrero or la primavera in the grid. Grids 8-10 feature English prompts, with students looking for the corresponding Spanish word in the grid, and also writing the Spanish word in the vocabulary list. Each grid is in landscape format, and has an accompanying answer key so that students can check their own responses. There is an accompanying Spanish-English vocabulary list which features all the vocabulary used in the word searches. This kind of activity is really versatile, and useful in a range of learning contexts: starters, refreshers, finishers, fun-time fillers or sub / cover lessons at any time during the school year, as well as during the period where this is the current language focus. Students benefit from revisiting the word searches over several weeks until they are absolutely confident with the range of vocabulary. The Lively Learning Classroom offers a wide range of Spanish resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

French-speaking countries, capital cities and flags game cards provide great cross-curricular learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year. Students can develop their language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the French-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The set features 41 countries / territories where French is an official language, with each picture card showing the continent and national flag, and the corresponding text card detailing continent, country and capital city. There is a set of detachable continent, country and capital city labels. Labelling is a really successful and popular learning activity. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too. There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capital cities, including the continent on which each is located. Students find it useful to read this through before playing I generally allow them only 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and increase the sense of competition if we are playing competitive team games. I’ve described a range of popular games and activities in the product pack. The list can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning files. Laminate the cards and reference sheets if you can - it’s really worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. Play regularly for maximum learning potential. Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON VOYAGE !

Challenge cards are an ideal language learning activity, and really help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their German language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. This set focuses on German numbers 0-31, which is usually described as beginner German vocabulary. The questions however are aimed more at advanced beginner German students and are also useful as a general skills refreshers for those preparing to enter into intermediate German. The questions are entirely in German, with reference to German mathematical vocabulary, and range in complexity and challenge. To maximise the learning potential of the questions, look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group activity, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices. Identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. This general knowledge quiz focuses on Europe. Students can broaden and develop their knowledge of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The quizzes work well as a whole-group team quiz, and are also perfect for pair or small-group activities. The quizzes are for more senior students, who have a more developed understanding, knowledge and awareness of the world. Some responses will be generally well-known to students, others less so, as the questions range from basic general knowledge to more specialized factual knowledge. This ensures that the activity is equally about reflecting on what students know, as it is about what they can learn. In this way, the quizzes aim not only to consolidate existing knowledge, but also to enable students to learn more about Europe. The questions and answers also provide a comprehensive framework for further exploration of Europe, which both broadens and enriches the learning experience. It’s useful to give students several opportunities over the school year to play the quizzes. Screen a clear map of Europe, to ensure that students can visualize it in its entirety, the location of individual countries within it, and in relation to each other. This provides an important learning context for students. The quiz opens with general questions about Europe, and then moves on to questions about a range of individual European countries. There are 80 questions across two challenges: = Challenge 1 56 multiple-choice questions, with four response options to choose from. The correct response is in capital letters. = Challenge 2 24 questions in TRUE / FALSE format. Where the answer is false, students should additionally give the correct response. Some of these questions align with the topics / themes in Challenge 1, but some address entirely different ones. It’s a good idea to work with this challenge after Challenge 1, as it maximises opportunity for learning. The questions address and topics such as: music and the Arts; daily life; famous figures; geography; history; landmarks; language and linguistics; literature; politics; science; social history; society This is the General Knowledge Europe Quiz edition of our European Day of Languages Europe Quiz #1 - please ensure you haven’t already purchased that edition. Provides structured talk opportunities, focusing on vocabulary, structures and general knowledge that students are generally engaging with from advanced beginner German level. The set addresses broad range of grammar points, such as adjectival endings, possessive adjectives and word order. Some questions and answers include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, which makes conversational German more realistic and communicative. Students will not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging implicitly with new language, as well as practising and reinforcing the current language focus. Both the questions and answers are a starting point: as students develop more competence and confidence in their German, they recreate either similar exchanges, or create entirely new ones, using the given language as a frame of reference. This also helps them develop independent learning and creative writing skills, making the activities really useful for multi-skill language learning. The set also provides students with an opportunity to develop their translation skills in German from the beginning of their learning, which is very important: they see that ‘word for word’ is rarely, if ever, accurate, and that a correct translation means correctly conveying the meaning of a clause or sentence, rather than every word that appears in it. The set comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: = 100 cards, 50 questions and 50 suggested responses in German (10 cards per page, 10 pages) Laminate these if possible, as they’re more learner-friendly, and they will remain in excellent condition for years, so they can used many times = 6-page booklet containing all the questions and answers in both German and English = 6-page translation activity booklet, translating from German into English = notes and recording sheets - if students don’t have class workbooks, they can use the sheets to make notes as they create new questions and responses, and write their completed versions out in full. I encourage my beginner French students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display, and plain. The background does help to make vocabulary display a little more visually appealing for students, which is a real motivator for learning. Have a browse in my store for more freebie French vocabulary lists, including a selection of visual vocabulary lists for very young learners, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Italian, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Children glue the lists into their Italian vocabulary books, or file them in their Italian vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful***Italian vocabulary reference bank*** for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner***Italian*** learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows o’clock on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to Italian prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with a particular time set, I then move on to additional time sets. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I use for Italian vocabulary display, or plain. Try this super simple worksheets freebie, focusing on how to tell the time in Italian o’clock: HOW TO TELL THE TIME IN ITALIAN : O’CLOCK WORKSHEETS FREEBIE /teaching-resource/italian-telling-the-time-o-clock-worksheets-freebie-12891784 Have a browse in my store for more Italian visual vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other Italian teaching and learning materials, with Italian resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. FRENCH CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST FREEBIE

(6)
PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH YEAR 7 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORDS & PICTURES A great French Christmas picture & vocabulary reference resource for younger learners of French. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are 20 common French Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning French. I’ve used a blend of masculine and feminine nouns, definite article and indefinite article and there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about articles, the concept of gender in French (which is often quite contrary to some learners’ first language, such as English), and forming the plural in French. It’s also great for promoting discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in France and French regions, as well as other French-speaking countries, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their French learning programme, they’ll have a comprehensive French Christmas vocabulary bank. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Christmas colours (which I tend to use as part of a French Christmas display), and blackline snow. Have a browse in my store for more French Christmas resources, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, French resource boxes, and lots of freebies.
