Random Name Picker: picks students randomly using this Excel Spreadsheet
What is this resource?
An Excel spreadsheet that selects students at random by pressing F9 on the keyboard.
Who is it aimed at?
All teachers.
What does it include?
A ready prepared template where you enter (paste) your pupils names into a column.
How do I use it?
Press F9 to select random students from a class. I use it to select pupils to answer questions at all stages of the lesson. I ask the last person to select a number between 1 and 10, this then selects the next student to ask.
It helps increase participation and removes any bias in our selection of students. All you have to do is paste namse into the correct column and you have a valuable tool to use for the rest of the year.

Marketing Mix (4P's) Easter Egg Challenge: Create an Easter Egg with a Unique Selling Point (USP)
What is this resource?
A challenge to create an Easter Egg that appeals to specific market segments/ target market. The rationale is to get the students thinking about the marketing mix in a tangible way. It includes 2 shuffle terms tasks (4P’s and pricing strategies) to embed theory which is then explored further in the context of product design and creation. The resource is split into sections to allow key analysis of each of the design choices - the PowerPoint follows the work sheet so you can teach it in sections or for year 11 revision purposes, let the kids run with it at their own pace. It is likely to take a minimum of two lessons but could be stretched over 4 or 5 depending on what you want to do with it. For example, you could make it a ‘Dragon’s Den/ Shark Tank’ activity and have a lesson judging the designs.
Who is it aimed at?
Year 10 and 11 GCSE students (and possibly year 12 students who have not studied at GCSE level). It is a fun activity that could last up to 4 lessons, depending on how deep you want to run it. You could explore the students designs at the end.

Edexcel A-Level Business (9BS0). Theme 1: 1.5.3 Business Objectives
Lesson 1: An introduction to business aims, objectives and strategy. Also including mission statements. It introduces future concepts such as business functions, SMART targets, market share and other key business terminology in an incremental way, building the foundation of vocabulary to help progression in the future. I find this is a good place to start the A-Level course for this reason.

A 31 slide PowerPoint that introduces students to the difference between aims, objectives and strategies. Examples of mission statements utilising real world examples, with embedded starter and plenary questions.

What is this Resource?

Lesson 4: All thing to do with markets. Market structures and competitiveness in the market from perfect competition to monopoly. Mass versus niche markets and an in depth analysis and discussion as to why Amazon will never be beaten. The content is beginning to gain depth and students can begin to explore and analyse business situations.

A series of lessons to fully understand market research and its importance.
Lesson 5 (+): Understanding customers via market research. This resource teaches the elements of market research including market and product orientation. Also included in the resources is a retrieval exercise where students create a knowledge organiser. This can be done from memory or as a research task - the template for this is included, both completed and empty.
There is an extension task that links to the story of Richard Cullen. This is pertinent for todays information driven world and be used as a source of debate. The last lesson in this series is the designing of a market research campaign for Nike.
