In a special podcast series for the summer, Film schools: what we learn when cinema goes to school, we look at some of the movies’ most memorable depictions of teachers.

In Episode 5, out today, teacher Kerry Fraser talks about the 1995 drama Mr Holland’s Opus, featuring an Oscar-nominated performance from Richard Dreyfuss as the titular music teacher. The film follows his career over 30 years, from an inauspicious start - he reluctantly goes into teaching to make ends meet -Ìýto a rousing finale in which he finally sees the profound impact he has had on countless students.

The podcast series was inspired by a Ìý·É³ó±ð²ÔÌýTes Scotland news editor Henry Hepburn asked followers for their favourite film featuring a teacher as a central character. Mr Holland’s Opus was one of the most-mentioned films.
