Ever watch a film set in a school and think, “that would never happen”?

Or perhaps the classroom dynamics played out exactly as you would expect - maybe you even thought, “I’ll give that a try with 3F on Monday morning”.

A new special Tes Scotland podcast series for the summer, Film Schools: what we learn when cinema goes to school, looks at some of the movies’ most memorable depictions of teachers.

We pick the brains of a real-life teacher about a school-set film that left a mark on them. We ask what it gets right and wrong about teaching, what continuing professional development the staff are in desperate need of, and what tips this fictional school has to offer on how (not) to go about the job.

The first episode features one of the most recognisable schools ever projected on to the big screen: the towering spires of Hogwarts, from the Harry Potter series.

Further episodes in the series include Gregory’s Girl and the classic 2002 documentary Être et Avoir
