Wellington College International has announced a plan to open its first school in Africa, in Lagos, Nigeria.

The school, , is set to open in September 2027 and will deliver the English national curriculum up to A level. It will have capacity for 1,500 students aged 3 to 18 and offer both day and boarding places.

The school is being built in the Alaro City area of Lagos, in partnership with Rendeavour, a major construction organisation building many amenities in Nigeria that is now entering the education space.

Wellington said the new school’s campus will include “state-of-the-art teaching facilities, a performing arts centre and extensive sports facilities”. It will also accommodate growing areas of educational focus such as artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.

International schools network

The school will join of Wellington College that currently operate in China, Thailand and India, and James Dahl, master at Wellington College, said the new site would benefit from this existing network.

“Through collaboration with other schools in our pioneering global family and our network’s positive approach, Wellington College International Lagos will provide our students with a truly transformative 21st-century education, enabling them to thrive and to help serve and shape a better world,” he said.
