There are 20 leaders on the Department for Education’s multi-academy trust CEO advisory group, Tes understands.

The new group, which is scheduled to meet for the first time next week, includes the leaders of some of the biggest academy trusts in the country, an email seen by Tes shows.

Tes revealed last month that school standards minister Catherine McKinnell (pictured) was inviting MAT leaders to join the group to advise the government.

The 20 CEO members of the group are:

  • Jennese Alozie, CEO of University of Chichester Academy Trust (16 schools)
  • John Barneby, CEO of Oasis Community Learning (54 schools)
  • Rebecca Boomer-Clark, CEO of Lift Schools (57 schools)
  • Tom Campbell, CEO of E-ACT (38 schools)
  • Zoe Carr, CEO of WISE Academies (16 schools)
  • Sir Jon Coles, CEO of United Learning (92 schools)
  • Tim Coulson, CEO of Unity Schools Partnership (39 schools)
  • Susan Douglas, CEO of The Eden Academy Trust (Eight schools)
  • Lucy Heller, CEO of Ark Schools (39 schools)
  • Tom Leverage, CEO of Our Lady of the Magnificat (19 schools), who will become CEO of Reach South Academy Trust (17 schools) in September
  • Cathie Paine, CEO of REAch2 (62 schools)
  • Sir Mufti Hamid Patel, CEO of Star Academies (36 schools)
  • Tom Rees, CEO of Ormiston Academies Trust (44 schools)
  • Paul Rickeard, CEO of the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust (21 schools)
  • Sarah Ridley, CEO of The Mead Educational Trust (14 schools)
  • Luke Sparkes, CEO of Dixons Academies Trust (17 schools)
  • Sir Paul Tarn, CEO of Delta Academies Trust (57 schools), who will soon step down from Delta
  • Steve Taylor, CEO of Cabot Learning Federation (35 schools)
  • Chris Tomlinson, CEO of Co-op Academies Trust (38 schools)
  • Jonny Uttley, CEO of The Education Alliance (12 schools)

The group will be supported by the Confederation of School Trusts, the original invitation to CEOs said, and the first meeting was scheduled for Tuesday 15 July.

In her original letter about the board, Ms McKinnell said she hoped members of the new group will use their experience and knowledge to offer “feedback, insights and advice” on how to drive excellence for all children.

The invitation came after a backlash from the academies sector over the government’s flagship Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill legislation that will bring academies into line with maintained schools in several areas where they have previously had flexibility.

In June the Department for Education appointed maintained school headteacher Andrew O’Neill as a school leader adviser.
