This is a lesson plan and resources for a beginners French lesson to use with KS2. It involves children learning the vocabulary for ‘Happy Christmas,’ as well as six decorations in French. This resource contains a comprehension pack on ‘Remembrance Day.’ There are four different comprehensions: What is Remembrance Day? The First Remembrance Day Why do we wear poppies? The History of the Poppy It includes answers and is suitable for using with year 1. Each comprehension contains a short piece of text (about 5 sentences) with words that can be sounded out. There are three trickier words which have pictures to help children work out what they say. The text is followed by 5 simple questions. There is also a powerpoint included in the pack containing a slide for each text so that you can go through the comprehensions before the children complete them. This resource is a comprehension booklet aimed at Lower Key Stage 2 (7-9 yrs). It is a playscript adapted from Shakespeare’s play of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The story is a romance and comedy and covers the themes of love, mistaken identities and magic. The story has been adapted so that is is suitable for ages 7-9. There are three differentiated booklets. The higher booklet has three pages of text for the children to read before they complete a range of questions based on a mixture of the KS1 and KS2 SATs. The middle and lower ability booklets have the text split into separate pages with questions on each page. These Year 2 SATs style fractions revision problems are split into 3 differentiated levels. Each level contains 20 reasoning and 10 arithmetic questions with answers. The higher level (Super Super Challenge) contains questions covering the Year 2 and Year 3 curriculum and is in the style of a SATs paper. The intermediate level (Super Challenge) contains questions covering the Year 2 curriculum and is based on past SATs papers. The lower level (called Challenge) contains questions covering the Year 1 curriculum. No further preparation required.

This resource is a 3 lesson unit on Pentecost, perfect for using with your key stage 1 class. The first lesson involves the children creating a Pentecost hat. They take part in an interactive starter, watch and discuss a PowerPoint of the Pentecost story, gather vocabulary before completing their art and finish with a literacy activity. I have included photos in the PowerPoint of a Pentecost hat that I made. The second lesson focuses on drama. There is a starter, paired drama task and a whole class drama plenary. The third lesson allows for a more detailed piece of writing, so it is perfect for extending literacy skills into RE. The starter is an art activity. This is a plan for an assembly on Epiphany (when the Wise Men visit Jesus), with the theme of beliefs and differences. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! There is an accompanying PowerPoint that tells the story of Epiphany. I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. This assembly involves the teacher recounting an anecdote which is then linked to the Wise Men visiting Jesus. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with.
