With schools now open to all pupils, the government has still not fulfilled its pledge to deliver 1.3 million laptops and tablets to disadvantaged children.

Last week, the Department for Education (DfE) appeared to be on track to meet its target just asÌýschools fully reopened from 8 March.

But the delivery rate has since fallen significantly, with onlyÌý33,544 devices sent to schools, trusts, colleges and local authoritiesÌýover the past week.

This brought the total delivered toÌý1,250,738Ìýas of 8pm on Sunday 7 March -Ìýnearly 50,000 short of the government’s target.

The rollout of devices to students has been slow moving, prompting fearsÌýlastÌýmonth that thousands of laptops were set to arrive after the school reopening date ofÌý8 March.

In January, nearly a fifth of headteachersÌýreported that laptops provided to their pupils by theÌýgovernment hadÌýnot worked as required.
