With yet another revision of its inspection regime, Ofsted has once more given the tired mantra “to raise the bar†as a justification for the change. But where is the independent evidence that Ofsted has itself “raised the bar†in terms of improving the quality of its own inspection judgments? There is none. Many old-fashioned HMIs would argue that the quality of school inspection has declined since the inception of Ofsted in 1992..
