Timss: At-a-glance tables reveal world’s top ranked countries in maths and science education

The latest Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (Timss)Ìýresults were released this morning.

More than 580,000 students in 57 countries took part in the study, which tests both ten-year-olds and 14-year-olds in maths and science. The results of the rankings, which are compiled by theÌýInternational Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement,ÌýrevealÌýthat countries in East Asia continueÌýto dominate the tables in both subjects.

The same five East Asian systems were all in the top six places for science. Russia came fourthÌýin science for 10-year-olds and seventhÌýfor 14-year-olds; while Slovenia’s 14-year-olds came fifth.

Singapore topped all four of the rankings’ tables. Meanwhile,ÌýEngland’s students managed to improveÌýtheir scores in both the maths and scienceÌýtables, but in terms of rankings in maths, stayed steady in primary science and moved up one place in secondary science.
