Mick Waters is wrong to claim that there is a flaw in the proposed “new” primary curriculum. (“Now’s the time to think about curriculum change,” Comment, November 6). It is true, as he says, that there are no new attainment targets to match the “new” areas of learning but he fails to acknowledge that the Government does not need to change the targets since the areas of learning represent only cosmetic repackaging rather than a major rethink of the primary curriculum. The proof is that there are no new elements in the areas of learning that cannot be accommodated under the old subject-based framework. Schools should not be misled. This is no new curriculum, hence no new attainment targets.
