Laura's story

How did you come to study with Tes Institute?

I first heard about Tes Institute through my school. Our assistant headteacher suggested it to me as a great pathway to gain QTS while continuing to teach. After looking into it further, both the school and I felt it was the ideal fit because of its strong reputation and the fact that it’s specifically designed for teachers already working in schools.

Why did you choose to undertake this course? What did you want to achieve?

I chose this course because I wanted to gain Qualified Teacher Status and formal recognition of my experience and the teaching I’ve already been doing. My goal was to become fully qualified, enhance my practice and increase my opportunities for career development, both in the UAE and internationally.

How has this course supported you to achieve your goal?

The course gave me a clear structure to reflect on and improve my teaching, while also meeting all the requirements for QTS. It helped me grow in confidence, develop stronger behaviour management strategies and confirm that I’m on the right path professionally. I now feel more secure in my role and prepared for the next stage of my career.

How did you find the application process?

The application process was very straightforward. The support team was helpful from the beginning, and everything was clearly laid out. I never felt overwhelmed at any stage and I always knew what was needed and when.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

What I enjoyed most was the way the course allowed me to apply everything directly in my lessons. It was so relevant and helpful to my day-to-day teaching, and I appreciated being able to grow professionally without stepping away from the job I love.

What support did you receive during the course and how did this help you to progress?

The support from both my school mentor and my pathway tutor was excellent. Regular feedback, check-ins and guidance helped me stay on track and focused. I always felt that help was there if I needed it, which made a big difference while balancing work and study.

What would you tell another person who is thinking of applying for this course?

I would highly recommend it. For anyone already teaching who wants to become qualified without stepping away from the classroom, Tes Institute offers a well-organised and supportive route. The structure of the course, along with the guidance from excellent pathway tutors, makes it a great opportunity to grow professionally while earning a respected teaching qualification.

How would you sum up your experience with Tes Institute in a sentence?

A supportive, professional journey that gave me the confidence, skills and recognition to take the next step in my teaching career.
