A plan and resources for a KS1 RE lesson on Palm Sunday, with a focus on teaching children the story. The plan includes details of a whole class starter, an introduction to the story, a drama activity, a simple written activity and a plenary. There are also differentiated targets, curriculum links and details about assessment for learning methods. All activities are highly interactive and make the topic accessible to the children. This resource contains 4 comprehension activities suitable for using with year 1 or lower ability year 2. The theme in this pack is 'Autumn. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘who’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets, with four pages with short written extracts to read and 5 questions per page. The theme is the story of Palm Sunday, which I have rewritten to resemble the style of the reading paper. The Higher Ability level (801 words) is similar to the SATs paper, whilst the Middle Ability (741 words) and Lower Ability (615 words) use slightly simplified wording in the reading and question booklet. The theme for the comprehension is the story of Jesus’ arrest before Good Friday, which I have rewritten to resemble the style of the reading paper. I have included 3 differentiated levels. The Higher Ability level (781 words) is similar to the SATs paper, whilst the Middle Ability (654 words) and Lower Ability (564 words) use slightly simplified wording in the reading and question booklet. Each level contains a 3 page reading booklet and an accompanying 4 page question booklet, which contains a range of questions based on past papers. There are also example answers.
