Counting in 10’s to 100 Circle cards x7 colours

What’s included? This pdf download includes x7 sets of counting in 10’s (circle) cards - x6 colours plus grey. Each sheet includes numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 and one ‘blank’ card in same style (for ‘zero’ or to replaced ‘lost’ card/s). Colours (and order) of the ‘Counting in 10’s cards’ are red (page 1), yellow (page 2), green (page 3), blue (page 4), purple (page 5) pink (page 6) and grey (page 7). All sheets are portrait orientation. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in Y1 and Y2 as well as students needing additional learning support. This resource may be suitable for some pupils in Reception. What’s it for? The circles can be cut out and used to practise/check ‘counting in 10’s’ to 100 using the image of 'ten fingers’ (on hands!) as a clear visual guide. These have been designed to be simple and ideal to use in various ways to practise and reinforce counting in 10’s to 100. Suggestions include: Game Each learner needs one set of coloured cards each. To play game circle cards can be sorted into colours and shuffled. Cards to be placed face-down in a grid (in random order). Players take turns to turn over one card at a time. If a player reveals their ‘own’ colour the card is kept, if it is not that player’s colour the card is returned to where it was taken from in the grid. The winner is the first player to collect all x10 cards (in their colour set) and position these cards in the correct order from 10 to 100. Treasure hunt These cards could be used for a coloured ‘treasure hunt’ where one set of cards are hidden within a specified area for learners to find, then order (once all colours in set have been found). Various other games could be invented using these cards. Circle sheets are best printed on card (or printed on paper and backed onto card) to ensure the images/numbers are not visible through the paper when reversed during game. See ‘recommendations’ below… Recommendations This PDF has been designed to print, it could be laminated to enable reuse. Print off as many sets as needed. Quality/durability will be best when printed onto ‘card’ (instead of paper) OR print onto paper, back onto card and laminate to keep for longer. What’s included? x5 pages, landscape orientation in colour to investigate the concepts ‘BIG’ and ‘small’. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years aged children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Page 1 is a visual reference sheet which could be used for display purposes but has been designed to be used as a point of discussion about what ‘BIG’ and ‘small’ means… As a teacher/adult led discussion learners could explore what the concepts ‘big ‘ and ‘small’ mean. There are x9 pairs of images displayed on page 1, each showing items that are (when compared to each other in the ‘real world’) ‘big’ or ‘small’. Learners could first work together to identify what the big and small item is in each pair. Once the big/small item in each pair has been identified learners could go on to consider mixing up the items in the pictured pairs - e.g. if the ‘elephant’ was compared with the ‘world’ instead of the ‘mouse’ which would be big and which would be small? The images on pages 2 and 3 could be used as a matching activity for learners to think about and explore this further. Pages 2 and 3 are for learners to use to record three sets of pairs of items that are (when compared with each other in the real world) BIG or small. The BIG item in each pair is the be positioned on the right and the small item in each pair is to be positioned on the left. There are three spaces (for three pairs) on page 2 and page 3, learners could complete two pages (2 and 3!) Pages 4 and 5 display the images from page 1 ready to be cut up (dotted lines guide where to cut) and placed in pairs on pages 2 and 3 (or page 6). Learners could pair up the images as featured on page 1 (see this list of big/small pairs above) OR learners could pair the images differently. However the learners pair up the images the idea is to pair one BIG and one small item when thinking about the size of these items in the ‘real world’ and not the size of the image as pictured on these sheets. This may confuse some learners and they will really need to think about these items/images carefully where pairing a big and small image together before securing them with glue on pages 2/3/6. Page 6 provides an opportunity for learners to draw and label their own (real world) BIG and small images. What’s included? x2 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students who need to revisit this or students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to make what a millilitre is visually clear to learners and to give learners an opportunity to count and identify a small amount of millilitres (up to 42). How to use it? The first page is an ‘information sheet’ - introducing learners to what a ‘millilitre is, that ml is short for millilitre and what millilitres are used/useful for. One thousand squares have been used to visually demonstrate what one thousand ml would look like and so how small just one millilitre is. This may be useful to make the concept of one (or more) millilitres visually clear to learners. The second page also shows one litre/one thousand millilitres visually - as 1000 blue squares and provides learners with the opportunity to count a limited number of ml and write what amount this would be (if water) as ml. Suggestion When completing the second page of this resource learners may need it to be made clear to them that each number of millilitres (orange, yellow, green and blue questions) is always part of the 1000 blue squares pictured on the whole sheet and not just the 100 blue squares that the orange/yellow/green/blue squares are illustrated as part of… Important… These squares are illustrations of millilitres shown to visually represent water and of course are not exact or equal to actual millilitres. What’s included? x4 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for children in the early years, pupils in years one and two as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource encourages learners to identify 2D shapes while practising counting (carefully and systematically) up to 12 objects. How to use it? Learners identify the x8 different 2D shapes hidden (on page 2) and once they have counted the total number of each shape (maximum number is 12) learners record this total amount on the recording sheet (page 1). Answers are provided on pages 3 and 4 in exactly the same layout for quick, easy reference - encouraging learners to be autonomous in checking their own work (carefully). Suggestion Encourage learners to use a different coloured crayon/felt tip pen when counting each different 2D shape (using page 2). This will make finding and counting each different 2D shape much easier and systematic for learners. Learners don’t need to colour the whole shape - just placing a dot in each as they count will help them to keep track of which shapes they have already counted! Provide ‘answers sheets’ (pages 3 and 4) for groups to share and only once the 2D Shape Eye Spy activity has been completed! What’s included? This download includes four pages (x4 A4 sheets, portrait orientation) featuring one ‘2D shapes’ wordsearch (page 1) and the answers (page 2). This download includes two versions of the same word search - in colour and black and white. Who’s it for? This simple, clear resource has been carefully designed to encourage young learners in the early years, especially pupils in years one and two as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? Knowing these 2D shape names (and related words) is an important part of maths throughout school and in the wider world. This word search makes the spellings clear and introduces/reinforces shape related vocabulary. Resource layout The wordsearch letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The 2D shape names (and related words) have been organised into four groups of four, clearly showing all hidden ‘shape words’ below the word search. There are x16 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards not backwards) OR vertically (up as well as down). Words to find are ellipse, circle, semi circle, heart, round, triangle, edges, side, square, rectangle, rhombus, vertices, pentagon, hexagon, star and regular. Support/extension The 2D shape images are hidden in this word search as well as the 2D shape name. For learners who would like an extra challenge, learners can find (and name) these - ticking the images off in the boxes below the word search (on page 1). Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words, enabling all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible in order to find all hidden words. If words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused. The black and white version is a good version for photocopying. Useful for… I find word searches like this are ideal for ‘quiet times’ during the day. Word searches are also ideal as an introduction to a topic, follow on activity for early finishers, a fun approach to a topic themed and as an engaging homework task - supporting reading, spelling and maths. What’s included? This download includes two A4, portrait pdf sheets to make number fans featuring numerals from 0 to 10. Black and white version. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. How to use this resource Number fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Number fans can be used as a personal reference resource for learners e.g. to help count and order numbers and/or cross-check the correct orientation of individual numbers if unsure when writing. Number fans can also be used for a variety of games and to accompany and involve learners during counting rhymes and songs, usable both inside the classroom and outdoors. Suggestion Brightly coloured plastic keyrings (which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic) could be ideal where you wish learners to access the contents of the ring e.g. to order the numbers. Alternatively a short loop of wool/string could be tied/untied to achieve the same effect. A standard metal keyring works well as a more permanent ‘holder’ of the contents threaded onto the ring. I recommend that each number is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf. This resource has been designed to introduce learners to tallying - how to record tally marks carefully and correctly as well as providing an opportunity to both read and write their own tallies (on page 4). This resource has been created as an introduction to ‘tallying’ prior to working on a data handling activity. Recording accurate tally marks is a key part of data handling and an essential skill to record data correctly. It is important that learners are given an opportunity to practise tallying, ready to use the skill in a real-life activity situation. Resource Details The first x3 pages introduce tallying in a step-by-step way, showing learners what a ‘tally’ is, what it is used for and how to write tally marks correctly to record an accurate amount/score. The last, page 4, provides an opportunity for learners to read five tallies and write the total (up to 23) as well as record the correct number of tallies for five numbers (up to 24). Pages 1 to 3 have been designed for an adult to go through with a learner/group of learners in a step-by-step way. Page 1 Learners are introduced to what ‘tallying’ and a ‘tally mark’ is and how tallies are written. Page one clearly shows how tallies one to four are written and how the fifth tally mark is written differently. Page 2 Learners are introduced to ‘tallies’ being written as groups of five and introduces learners to how to write tally marks up to 10, providing an opportunity for learners to write their own tally marks to 10. Page 3 Learners are introduced to how to write tally marks up to 20, providing an opportunity for learners to write their own tally marks to 10 again - this time beginning at a ‘starting dot’ for each tally and tracing over the grey lines to write the tally marks correctly. Page 4 This has also been designed learners to practise reading and writing tally marks. Learners are to record the total number of tallies (writing the number) and record their own tally marks for each number provided. This is a simple, easy to play game to reinforce number bonds to 10 knowledge in a fun, easy way. Designed for Y1 and Y2, suitable for Reception aged children. This is a two player game so ideal for a parent and child or support assistant and individual child needing some extra help in remembering these number bonds. I have used this successfully online but have adapted it here so that it can be played at a table/desk…or on the floor! Everything needed to play this simple game is included in the pdf and the instructions are clearly printed on the game. What’s included? This game is made up of three resources. A set of x5 ‘Counting in 2’s socks’ sheets to cut up and use as cards, a set of x6 different coloured ‘Washing Line Game Boards’ and a matching set of counting in 2’s (sock!) number lines. update! This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. To play this game the two resources included are both needed. What’s it for? This download includes a game (for up to x6 players) to practise ‘counting in 2’s’ (up to 50) using pairs of socks as a helpful visual guide. This game has been designed to encourage learners to think about ordering two’s numbers separately from the predictable counting pattern. Learners will still need to use their knowledge of counting in 2’s to help them but through playing this game their ability to recall the sequence of 2’s number will be called on. Resource 1 details Counting in 2’s ‘Sock number cards’ x5 sheets featuring pairs of socks numbered from 2 up to 50. Printing these ‘sock cards’ onto card (instead of paper) will prevent the numbers being visible through the paper when placed face down to play the game (helping to increase ‘fairness’ / eliminate cheating!) Resource 2 ‘Washing Line Game Boards’ x6 sheets, six different colours are included - red/yellow/green/blue/purple/pink. Simple instructions (as well as what is needed to play the game) are included at the top of every ‘Washing Line Game Board’. Resource 3 x1 sheet which includes x7 Counting in 2’s number lines to 50 with socks. There is one black and white (neutral) version and one colour to match each of the ‘Washing Line Game Boards’ so each player can have their own number line to assist them during the game (if needed). Game tips use a counting in 2’s socks number line if needed (more challenging without) Remembering where players return 2’s number cards to the grid will increase players chances of winning! to increase winning chances encourage players NOT to choose to keep the ‘same’ cards (showing the same sequence of counting in 2’s) that other players are collecting. There are not enough of every sock number card for everyone to successfully choose and use the same sock number cards for their sequences.
