A lesson looking at marine biomes - with the example of the Great barrier Reef. Pupils can look at marine animals and their adaptations - mainly for Year 7 but can work for any KS3 classes. Pupils look at facts about the Great Barrier Reef and the main threats from tourism and the environment.

A double lesson looking at:1) The history of Africa and colonialism as well as 2) Misconceptions surrounding Africa. The history of Africa - looking at a map and activities that can be done online. The main part looks at countries that were taken over by the British, French etc. Pupils could plot on a map? Info sheets included. The second part (another lesson) looks at misconceptions surrounding Africa e.g. people speak African - or Africans are poor. There are views expressed by a range of players (people) by which pupils can categorise and rank and write their own!

An online lesson that can easily be adapted to in class - looking at the Big 5 animals in Africa. Students can make fact-files on each animal and then present/swap before judging each animal.

This lesson requires research for pupils to do. Begins with a fact-file about Ghana and looks at exports in Ghana. There is a quiz for pupils to assess their knowledge.

A lesson that looks at what global warming is. The impacts are also shown through use of pictures and a documentary looking at the influence of humans.

KS3 resource looking at the causes of flooding, impacts and an example of flooding in a developed country (UK) and developing country (Bangladesh). Spelling test and wordsearch included.

A lesson looking at what a biome is, the location of biomes around the world and information regarding each biome. Pupils can do a range of activities: posters, fact-files or presentations. Lots of activities which involve: guess the biome, picture round and a word search!

Introduction lesson looking at Geography and Disease. The lesson asks pupils to focus on new geographical words related to disease (literacy) and a world map of diseases. Pupils can look at patterns and suggest reasons. Pupils also compare top 10 diseases from developed, emerging and developing countries. Diamond 9 activity for reasons related to diseases included too.

A KS3 lesson looking at rivers - the long profile of a river and the water cycle. The lesson starts by getting pupils to define a river, look at keywords (literacy) such as source and mouth before some pictures. Pupils then describe the long profile of a river adn how depth and other characteristics change. The second part of the lesson goes through the water cycle and the process (pupils can draw and explain this) before thinking about how human and physical factors can alter the water cycle e.g. deforestation.

The lesson looks at the 3 courses of a river - upper, middle and lower. There are a range of different resources for each. Pupils can look at landforms and write a story to describe the change from upper to lower. Waterfalls, meanders and deltas are all considered.

This lesson can be used for in class and online. The lesson focuses on the climate of the UK (temperature and precipitation). Map skills are enhanced. The lesson looks at 3 cloud types with opportunities to be creative. The lesson also looks at the 3 different types of rainfall (frontal, convectional and relief). Lots of opportunities for self assessment!

An introduction lesson for Topic 7 (People and the Biosphere) for GCSE Edexcel B. The lesson looks at the definition of a biome, examples, location and reasons globally for the location of these biomes. There are exam relevant facts for each biome located too.

The second lesson (7.1b) looking at the 4 local factors that influence biome distribution. Biotic and abiotic factors are also looked at with a consieration of how they interlink

The 3rd lesson (7.2a) looking at what resources indigenous people can acquire from the biosphere and why it continues to be exploited.

Lesson 5 looking at 7.2c of the specification. The first part looks at the increasing demand for resources based on affluence and attitude. The main part looks at the views of Malthus and Boserup with pupils having a good discussion about who is right and why.

A summary lesson consolidating pupil knowledge through activities that look at re-cap, exam technique, practice questions and a checklist to encourage pupils to take a responsibility for their own learning.

A lesson involving links to the UK climate (temperature and precipitation) while also looking at the causes of Thunder and Lightning. Lots of videos and ideas for pupils to think about lightning safety.

Lesson 7 looks at the direct and indirect threats facing the Taiga biome. The direct threats are explored before looking at the 3 main indirect threats (acid rain, pests and forest fires). TRF comparison is made.
