This resource transforms your aural skills lessons into a hands-on, engaging experience. Students listen to audio clips and match melodies, rhythms, or intervals on their reusable boards. The activity is progressively challenging, with three rounds of questions that build skills week by week. You can also create your own questions by clapping or playing the piano, so once your students know the game and boards, you can continue to use them far beyond the basics!
Perfect for older beginners but easily adaptable for any age group, it caters to diverse learners, including tactile and sensory students. Use buttons, counters, dry-wipe markers, or even modeling clay to customize the experience! Students love the interactive and tactile elements. It’s a versatile tool for individual practice, group activities, or even competitions. Many rhythm games and rhythm exercises are simple clapping activities and I find my secondary-aged students find this childish, boring and not challenging. Beginning ear training and musicianship skills can be intimidating for students and a challenge for teachers. This resource turns it into a game – colourful, interactive and hands-on. I recommend using it in short bursts and integrating it regularly into your lessons.

I wrote this as a way of getting my students singing, moving and interacting at the start of every lesson! I use it with all my younger classes. Everyone picks up the melody quickly and looks forward to the “change places” chorus on each repeat!
Pitch/melody warm-up: the song uses a natural minor key, ideal for young singers. The range is an octave and the melody moves by step and small leaps of a 3rd.
Rhythm warm up: finger clicks help practise keeping time. The melody uses mostly quarter notes, emphasising keeping a steady beat.
Movement warm-up: the game involves swapping places each chorus.
Social warm-up: your students will all be involved, looking around the circle, and feeling the benefits of singing together.
I hope you and your students love playing and singing together using this song! If you enjoy it, please leave a review to help others find it. Follow my store for more fun music resources for your music classroom.

We all love preparing our students’ solo performances but the reality is we cannot always have every student playing music - sometimes we need valuable, enriching written work which will support and enhance the students’ performance. Broken instruments, quiet lessons during exams, teacher absence, large classes - there is a whole list of reasons why written work is sometimes needed!
I have used this in the lead up to practical prelims and exams, allowing me time to spend one-to-one with each student. It is also suitable for homework or even to leave with a non-specialist sub teacher, as the students work completely independently. The task can be repeated as often as you like with different pieces of music. This is not just “busy work”, this is a detailed task which will truly see your students develop a much deeper understanding of the music - and, in turn, perform it better!
If you have a student unable or unwilling to perform, this could be used as an alternative or make-up task.
There is a real mix of questions, covering all aspects of music reading and performance, but assuming very little prior knowledge - making this product ideal for mixed ability classes, and for using across multiple year groups. Headings include melody/harmony, dynamics, tempo and more - ideal if your students are preparing for practical exams such as GCSE, AS, A level, ABRSM, National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher.
I really hope you enjoy using this research task and I am confident your students will benefit from completing it! Don’t forget to leave a review if you like the product, to help other teachers find it.

I don’t know how many times I’ve got my students to “make a poster on an orchestral instrument” (or write an essay or deliver a PowerPoint presentation… you know the drill!). It was tired, unstructured and didn’t suit the diverse needs and abilities of my students. So, I created these templates to allow students to show the same research and revision skills, but in a new and fresh way! The printable templates give students the structure and scaffolding to complete the task in detail in an aesthetic and creative way.
23 different instruments are included (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, marimba, timpani, percussion, drum kit, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, banjo, piano) and a blank version is included too, to allow students to complete the task on any instrument at all, or to use as differentiation for older and more able students. I use this with multiple year groups and just expect more detail from the older ones! The instrument illustrations are high-quality, realistic line drawings. A version with instructions is also included, to show students what to write or draw in each section.
I use this project as a research task in class but it is also suitable for homework or to leave with a non-specialist cover teacher. It even works for Band and Orchestra classes - the students can create a brochure on their instrument! This is not just “busy work”, this is a detailed task which will truly see your students actively engaged in creating their brochure, and the end result looks eye-catching and professional. If you have a student unable or unwilling to perform, this could be used as an alternative or make-up task. It is also suitable for classes where practical work is not possible.
This project is ready to print and go!
I really hope you enjoy using this research task and I am confident your students will benefit from completing it! Don’t forget to leave a review if you like the product, to help other teachers find it.
