The posters create an instant and comprehensive introduction to Europe in German. The posters are portrait format, A4, 8.5 x 11, in German showing European countries, capital cities and flags. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography.
There is a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, to extend students’ knowledge of Europe a little further, and also some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. Some countries have two posters, such as France, officially known as Französische Republik - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Frankreich to display.
The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity. They’re ideal for the annual Europe Day celebration, and the European Day of Languages, as well as an all year round display. Laminate if possible - it’s worth the extra prep time and expense, as they hang on the walls more easily, and remain in excellent condition for years.

An instant introduction to 25 fruits and 25 vegetables in German. The key focus is on the definite article, both masculine and feminine, singular and plural, which can promote discussion about the indefinite article. This is a successful way of helping students embed grammatical concepts such as gender, implicitly, without the need for repeated explicit instruction.
To maximise the learning potential of German classroom display, use the set as speaking prompts, asking questions such as Was ist das? to Ja / nein or Richtig / falsch questions, meaning students can move from one-word responses to more complex language, for example plurals or negative sentences. Forming negative sentences accurately can be quite tricky in German, and often requires focused practice Nein, das ist keine Karotte, das ist eine Kartoffel. and so on. This kind of vocabulary is really useful for an implicit approach to introducing and practising the accusative of articles too, for example Ich habe einen Blumenkohl; Ich habe den Blumenkohl.
The fruits are:
green apples : red apple : bananas : cherries : dates : fig : green grapes : red grapes : kiwi : lemon : mango : nectarine : olives : oranges : papaya : peach : pear : pineapple : pumpkin : raspberry : redcurrants : rhubarb : starfruit : strawberries : watermelon
The vegetables are:
artichoke : asparagus : beetroot : broccoli : cabbage : carrots : cauliflower : celery : corn : cucumber : eggplants / aubergines : French / green beans : garlic : leeks : lettuce : mushrooms : onions : peas : red peppers : yellow pepper : potatoes : sprouts : spinach : sweet potatoes : tomato
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two design formats to choose from - German flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum, so 50 flashcards / posters in total. Print on card stock and / or laminate the flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, and remain in excellent condition for years.

The verbs groups are:
= regular German verbs
= irregular & mixed German verbs
= high-frequency German verbs
= German reflexive verbs
= German separable verbs
There are 2 formats:
= Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new regular German verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank.
= Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs
The answer keys are separate files in the individual zip files.
The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and various question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the prefix, reflexive pronoun, verb or infinitive accurately. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practicing and reinforcing the current language focus.
There are three differentiated conjugation challenges in each set:
= Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them.
= Conjugation Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation.
= Conjugation Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognise both the correct conjugation and an accurate translation.

= Set 1: o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour
= Set 2: range of analogue clock times, with an initial focus on 5 / 10 / 20 / 25 past and 5 / 10 / 20 / 25 to the hour
Dominoes games are ideal for French class, providing students with an opportunity to learn and practice language entirely independently, either alone, or collaboratively in pairs or small groups. Students challenge themselves and each other to create a time-sequence line, on the classroom floor or on a long(ish) table, by matching the times and clock faces.
The games work well in various learning contexts, for example learn and practice during the introductory phase, refresh and revise throughout the school year and activities for sub / cover lessons. Playing in teams against a timer adds a popular competitive element, which students find really motivating.
The challenges can be easily identified by the corresponding number in the top left-hand corner of each individual domino. There is a certain amount of prep involved: printing, laminating and cutting out. Laminated dominoes are easier to manipulate and will remain in excellent condition for years, meaning you will be able to use them many times.
Both sets feature three games, each with a different level of challenge:
= Challenge 1: times in numerical order, time phrase to clock face
= Challenge 2: times in random order, time phrase to clock face
= Challenge 3: times in random order, clock face to time phrase

Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their German conjugation skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. It’s useful to work with tense and more complex language as quickly as possible, as this gives students a more realistic experience of the language they are learning.
This set focuses on the conjugation of German verbs in the present tense, featuring a range of regular, irregular and mixed, reflexive, separable and modal verbs. The questions are aimed at advanced beginner German students, and are useful for students preparing for intermediate German class. The activity is ideal for independent study, learning alone, in pairs or in small groups. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge, and address a range of language that may be entirely new and unfamiliar to students. These questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language - this means that the activity is not solely about practising and consolidating learned language, but also actively engaging with, and learning new language. A range of grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and word order in German.
There are translation questions from both German into English and English into German. This introduces students to the concept of translation from a very early point in their German programme.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
= 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible, as the cards are more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. It’s not necessary to cut out individual cards - simply laminate the pages, saving considerably on prep time

100 French Speaking & Writing Prompts, for Higher GCSE & beginner ALevel French students. Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial.
The questions are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing.
Speaking: As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards among your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group. The cards work particularly well as ice-breakers at the beginning of the school year, refreshers after vacation, prep for both new phase learning, for example intermediate to advanced intermediate, and even advanced intermediate to advanced, as well as exams. Frequent and regular engagement with language is absolutely key to successful language learning.
Writing: The cards work best in pair or small-group work, where learners have access to reference resources, such as bilingual dictionaries and the internet. The latter will enable them to prepare detailed responses to questions which address general knowledge, rather than their own life. They can then transfer this knowledge to their spoken work.
The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; France & travel; social activity & daily life

This set of Spanish conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for KS3 Spanish to KS4 Spanish students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning.
The questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of tenses such as preterite and conditional. I like to include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning.
Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in Spanish. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts.
I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to keep the conversation going.
The starters broadly address the following themes:
