This is a powerpoint lesson introducing 5 letters of the Russian alphabet. It assumes no knowledge of the alphabet previously and starts with а/о/м/к/с. It is the first of 6 lessons on the Russian alphabet which aims to slowly introduce the alphabet and writing system to students, giving them time to practice and develop. This is suitable for KS3 students and beginners at KS4 (though it may be more beneficial to combine lessons 1&2 for KS4 to increase pace and demand). Activities include: listen and repeat, graded questioning, reading practice and speaking practice.

This lesson is an ideal first lesson for teaching Russian and introduces not only the characters of the Russian alphabet and its sounds, but also some Russian animals, Russian names and cognates to aid students in practicing the alphabet. Handwritten Russian is also given as well as typed Russian. A slide with vocab learning homework is provided at the end. This lesson is the first of two lessons focusing on learning, reading and writing the Russian alphabet.

Full PPT lesson teaching/revisiting Russian past tense and introducing aspects using the short story “Косточка” by Leo Tolstoy. This lesson is suitable for GCSE and higher attaining KS3 classes. Activities include: group translations, mini-whiteboard AfL activities, grammar gap-fill. This lesson is not topic specific and can be used where needed. Depending on student levels, this lesson would be best suited to a longer single lesson, or spread across two lessons (split wherever the teacher chooses). Worksheets are included at the end of the powerpoint. Only changes needed is to insert the relevant date on title slide.
