Measuring length using cm (up to 25cm)

(0)
What’s included? x4 sheets, landscape orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students who need to revisit this or students needing additional learning support. This resource may be suitable for children in the EYFS. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to give learners an opportunity to practise measuring the length of simple shapes using cm (up to 25cm). How to use it? The first page is an ‘information sheet’ - introducing learners to what a ‘centimetre’ is and what it is used for in images and words. Pages 2 to 4 (numbered 1-3) provide practical opportunity for learners to use the images of the rulers provided to carefully measure the length of each object (image) featured. Page number 1 focuses on ‘stationery’, page number 2 on ‘kitchen items’ and page number 3 on ‘tools’. Page 3 uses the vocabulary ‘longer’ and ‘shorter’ and looks at the difference (in cm) between the longest and shortest tool - which may be a new concept for some learners and so may require some support. Suggestion I would encourage learners to draw a vertical line from the end of each object to the number on the ruler above (using a pencil and ruler!) to be sure of what the total length for each item is. Important
This resource has been designed to provide learners with an opportunity to practice measuring using the images of rulers marked with cm. These rulers are illustrations of rulers and not exact centimetres. It is printed on each sheet that the ‘illustrations in this resource are not to scale’. Important message

Handwriting similar letters - c o a d g q

What’s included? This download includes x3 A4, pdf sheets (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting the lowercase letters c, o, a, d, g, q . Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. These resources have been designed to focus on the common confusion there can be for some learners when writing letters which are visually similar. This resource set should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these letters together, reinforcing the correct way of writing letters with similar shapes. These letters are all written in a similar way, starting at the top and beginning by curving round to the left
Resource details The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 100. This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has a clear ‘starting dot’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dotted lines on top of letters provide guidance of where exactly to write. I have grouped these letters into pairs - c/o, a/d and g/q. There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the line at the base of the sheet. There is also a clear space to record the number date at the top, right of the sheet, helpful to keep completed sheets and track progress (and improvement!) over time. All letters are positioned on a line - to model how letters should look when positioned correctly on a line. Important message

What’s included? x4 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 1 (letters - s a t p i n). Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce the first six sounds in Phase 2 - s a t p i n. Learners sound out the words on the ‘word cards’ and match these to the images on the ‘picture cards’. Answers are clearly presented on pages 3 and 4 for quick easy reference - encouraging learners to be autonomous. All words in this resource only use the sounds ‘s a t p i n’. This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (1) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or for an adult to use to support learners needing some extra help/to revisit these sounds. Phase 2, set 2 (sounds m d g o c k) is also available (in same design) in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x16 rectangular shaped picture cards (x8) and word cards (x8) (pages 1 and 2). Grey dotted lines guide where to cut. These x16 cards can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to read and match. Resource Details
The words on the word cards only use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n. These words are: snap pin pants spin tin sit pan snip Learners may find ‘snip’, snap’, ’spin’ and ‘sit’ more tricky to match as these four cards do not link directly to a noun picture card. ‘Snap’ links to a ‘crocodile’, ‘snip’ to ‘scissors’, ’spin’ to a ‘globe’ and ‘sit’ to the cat which is ‘sitting’ on a chair - encouraging learners to think a bit more about the meaning of the words on the cards. What’s included? x12 sheets for all Phase 2 sounds. Grapheme/picture cards in landscape orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are just learning these sounds for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. This resource is also ideal for older learners with additional learning needs who need to revisit these sounds. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce all of Phase 2 sounds - sounding out simple words (all only using sounds within Phase 2) then checking to see if they were correct, promoting autonomy. How to use it? Print resources onto card rather than paper, cut following dotted lines and place the ‘word cards’ on a table top with the last section folded backwards (where the ‘dashed lines’ indicate) to ‘hide’ the image behind the word. Learners sound out and read each word, then can check by looking behind at the hidden (folded back) image to see if they read the word correctly. With the end section folded back these cards can ‘stand up’ on a table top rather than being laid flat, giving them an interactive feel. Correcting Sentences, reading and writing

(0)
What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise reading and writing to correct x8 simple sentences. Every sentence has x3 mistakes to correct. The last two pages are the answer pages - the same sentences with every mistake made clear. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Pages 1 and 2 both include x4 sentences, each in a separate box, illustrated with a simple image on the right. Both pages include the same instructions at the top - making it clear to learners that there are x3 mistakes in each sentence and what these mistakes might be. Mistakes may be spellings, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of both pages. The words included and spelling errors make the level of this activity aimed at learners who are learning Phase 5 phonics. Sentences include words containing Phase 5 sounds (ea, ay, a-e, aw, ph) as well as a knowledge of common high frequency words including she, you, his, are, and, said, see, their, not, with, at, the, to, do, that, can, in, loved, dad. The pictures provide clues to assist reading unfamiliar words (e.g. lions, zoo, sheep, lambs, chicken, grapes, bake) to encourage learners to use a range of reading skills when decoding these sentences if they are not at a level to read them on-sight. Pages 3 and 4 clearly show the answers in exactly the same format to encourage learners to be autonomous in checking their own learning. Each mistake is circled in pink and corrected clearly underneath to make clear to learners exactly where and what each mistake was. Important message

Investigating half (1-20) with recap questions

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x6 sheets, landscape orientation, in colour to investigate the concept ‘half’ up to 20. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to investigate which numbers (from 1 to 20) can be ‘halved’. There is a introduction to ‘half’ on page one and x20 recap questions at the end. Resource layout Page 1 This is an introductory page (not numbered) to explore ‘half’ is demonstrated step by step (horizontally) across the page. Pages 2 to 5 These pages enable learners to investigate each number from 1 to 20 (in order) to discover whether it can (or cannot!) be split equally into two. Starting at number 1 each box visually shows that number of pencils with two sheets of paper positioned below. Learners draw a line from one pencil to the left sheet of paper and the next pencil to the second (right) sheet of paper, continuing to do this (alternating drawing a line to the left/right sheet of paper each time, one pencil at a time) until there aren’t any more pencils available. Underneath the image of two 'sheets of paper’, the learners circle either the tiny image of ‘tick’ / ‘cross’ to indicate whether that number can be split in half (or not). Lastly for every question is a sentence e.g. ’Half of 2 is ___ ‘ for learners to complete. Learners write the missing number on the line to complete the sentence. Where a number (e.g. 1) cannot be split equally into half and therefore the sentence - ‘Half of 1 is ___ ‘ cannot be completed the learner can instead draw a line or cross in the space, e.g. ‘Half of 1 is ___’ OR ‘Half of 1 is X’. Learners then move onto investigating the next number. Page 4 At the end of page 4 there are two larger red/green boxes for learners to write the numbers (on the left/right) which cannot/can be split equally into half. Page 5 On page 5 there are x20 recap questions in the same order as the investigation (pages 2 to 4) and using the same colour boxes for each question. The colours should help guide learners back to the question they need to check their earlier findings should they need it. Recommendations I recommend that learners explore the concept of ‘halving numbers to 20’ practically before recording their learning. Physically using coloured matchsticks or lolly sticks and a sheet of A4 folded/with a line drawn down the centre is a simple way to begin! Small coloured matchsticks could be placed on top of the pencil images each time for a learner with good fine motor control. Important message

Number bonds to 5/10/20 In order/random order

(0)
What’s included? This pdf download includes sixteen (rainbow themed) ‘number bonds to 5/10/20’ pages, all presented in portrait orientation. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in Reception, Y1 and Y2 as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? Resource 1 - in order x2 pages includes number bonds (to 5/10/20) questions to complete in ‘order’, with answers. Page 1 has been designed to be a ‘cut and stick’ missing numbers activity, however missing numbers can be written in the empty boxes instead, either works. The answers are clearly presented in the same layout on page 2. Page 2 could be used as a reference resource for display Resource 2 - in random order x2 pages includes number bonds (to 5/10/20)questions to complete in ‘random order’, with answers. Page 1 has been designed to be a ‘cut and stick’ missing numbers activity, however missing numbers can be written in the empty boxes instead, either works. Handwriting practise - numbers 0 to 10

(0)
What’s included? This download includes one A4, pdf sheet (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting numerals 0 to 10. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed to break down each step involved in writing these eleven numerals correctly, using green (go!) ‘starting dots’ and red ‘stop dots’ to make it clear to learners exactly where to begin and end writing. Colour coded arrows guide learners on which direction to follow. This resource should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these numerals more closely for those pupils who need a greater level of support and maybe find it harder to remember which direction to follow. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 150. This activity has been designed to write straight on. The start and stop dots make it clear where learners place their pencil to begin/where to end and dotted lines on top of letters provide guidance of exactly which direction to write. There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the line at the base of the sheet and a clear space to record the number-date at the top of the sheet - helpful to keep sheets and track progress (and improvement!) over time

Data Handling - Favourite Colour Investigation

(0)
What’s included? This download includes two sets of three A4, portrait pdf sheets ( a black and white AND colour version) to investigate which colour is each pupil’s favourite (designed for a class of 30 - up to 32 spaces available). Learners transfer the information collected to a clear, simple bar chart and answering questions about this. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details There are x3 sheets in total for the B&W AND colour set. Page 1 is to be used in landscape orientation (to collect the data using the tally system). Pages 2 and 3 are both to be used in portrait orientation. Page 2 is designed to use the data collected on the tally chart (on page 1) to create a block graph to present this information. Page 3 asks questions related to the data collected and recorded on pages 1 and 2. The ‘colour’ version has been designed to make the meaning even clearer to learners, especially when plotting the bar chart and recording the colour names in answers to the questions on page 3. Spellings for all colours are clearly displayed at the top (of page 3). Page 1 Learners are to ask up to x32 people ‘What is your favourite colour?’ recording each response using the tally system. For learners who are new to/less familiar with 'how to tally’ - tallying is modelled on the right side of page 2. To begin at the top of page 1 is a space to record ‘how many pupils’ are present (in class) that day to question. Once the data has been collected the number of tallies for each colour can be counted. The total of all colour groups can be added together to check if the same number of people identified as being present and available to ask ‘What is your favourite colour?’ matches the number of tally marks actually recorded. An important lesson in careful, accurate data collection. There is a space for two additional colours to be written if needed (in the boxes on the right side of the tally chart). Page 2 Using the information recorded on page 1 learners then transfer this information to the simple, clear bar chart presented on page 2. Learners colour the same number of ‘coloured boxes’ for the number of tallies recorded for each favourite colour. There is space on the bar chart for up to 32 people (for each colour group). There is also a space to record the data collected for up to two additional colours (on the right side of the bar chart) if needed. Page 3 The questions on page 3 link to the information collected/recorded on pages 1 and 2. There is also an opportunity to practise both reading a tally and recording the correct number this shows and recording a number as a tally. Handwriting practise - numbers 1 to 12

(0)
What’s included? This download includes one A4, pdf sheet (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting numerals 1 to 12. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed to break down each step involved in writing these twelve numerals correctly, using green (go!) starting dots and red (stop!) dots to make it clear to learners exactly where to begin and end writing. Support (colour coded) arrows also guide learners on which direction to follow. This resource should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these numerals more closely. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 150. This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has clear ‘starting’ and ‘ending’ dots so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dotted lines on top of letters provide guidance of where exactly to write. There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the line at the base of the sheet and a clear space to record the number-date at the top of the sheet - helpful to keep sheets and track progress (and improvement!) over time

Wordsearch Months and seasons of the year

Wordsearch Months and seasons of the year

(0)
What’s included? This download includes one ‘months of the year’ word search in colour AND black and white. There are x4 pages in total, all portrait orientation in pdf format. The x12 months and x4 seasons of the year are hidden in a x10 by x10 square grid, with the hidden words clearly listed in four (seasonal) groups underneath. The answers (on page 2) clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) for easy comparison and quick reference. Who’s it for? This word search has been carefully designed to encourage young readers in the early years and pupils in years one and two (as well as students needing additional learning support) with reading key words. Knowing these time-related words (the months of the year and seasons) both reading them on-sight and learning the correct spellings will benefit both reading and writing. Resource layout Page 1 The words for the twelve months have been organised into groups of four according to which season they are part of. The box for each season has been colour coded (in the colour version) to make this clearer, the ‘season word’ for each group is also hidden within the word search. There are x16 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards). Words to find are; Winter, December, January, February, Spring, March, April, May, Summer, June, July, August, Autumn, September, October and November (all are hidden as lower case letters). Page 2 The layout is exactly the same design as page 1 making cross referencing the answers quick and easy and encouraging learners to be autonomous. The position of the hidden words is made clear by the colour coded lines as well as a small arrow to the left of each word which identifies the direction of the hidden word. Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible. If words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused. Important message
