This download includes two resources (counting cards and game boards) to use together to play a simple game. x2 sheets are portrait orientation (rabbit cards) and x4 sheets are landscape orientation (carrot game boards). Together there are x6 pdf sheets. What’s it for? This resource uses a rabbit/bunny theme as learners can count (the pairs of ears) to help them as needed. This resource has been designed for learners to apply their knowledge of counting in 2’s (0 - 30) to playing a game. Four boards are included, each with x4 missing 2’s numbers. The first player to correctly fill their 2’s missing number gaps wins. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as early years children or older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details *Counting in 2’s Rabbit Cards Page 1 includes x15 cards each featuring one rabbit (with two ears!) and a ‘two’s number’ underneath. Cards on page one are from 2 - 30. Page 2 includes an additional 24 and 28 card - to be used to play the ‘Carrot game’. These Counting in 2’s Rabbit Cards can also be used on their own to practise ordering numbers (counting in twos). Carrot Game Boards (Counting in 2’s) For four players though one learner could use these on their own to practise matching and counting in 2’s (also using the ‘Counting in 2’s Rabbit Cards’) Carrot Game - Instructions Needed to play game… One board (A-D) per player (x4 boards in total) One set of ‘Counting in 2’s Rabbit Cards’ (AND one extra ’24’ card) To prepare - cut up, shuffle and place 'Counting in 2’s Rabbit Cards’ face down in a grid. How to play… Players take turns to select one card from the grid. If selected card fits into either the ‘upper’ or ‘lower’ sequence (above/below ‘grass’ on board) player keeps and positions this card on their board. The player then has another turn. If that card does not fit either sequence on the player’s board the card is returned and it is the next players turn. WINNER matches all (x4) 2’s cards correctly first! Game and card instructions are included at the top of each ‘Carrot game board’ and ‘Counting in 2’s Rabbit cards’ resource to cut out and keep. These blank sums enable learners to practise simple subtraction sums with plenty of space to use practical resources (ideally matching their interests) to support them. Even though this resource is black and white each sum is a different shade of grey/black which alternates to help make it clear to learners which sum they are working on. Recommendations Small objects can be placed in each box as long as these are not deemed a choking hazard for your little learner/s). Suggestions of small objects to count include: small coloured matchsticks buttons pom poms coloured dot/spot stickers small ‘themed’ stickers especially if matched to your learner’s interests Learners could have access to number cards and/or roll dice to make their own subtraction sums - encouraging autonomy. Learners could then draw the number of spots or use ‘dot stickers’ to record the numbers chosen (on a card) or rolled (using dice) in the boxes. Top tip When working on subtraction sums especially if learners are making their own sums - always encourage them to put the larger of the two numbers first to then ‘take away’ the ‘smaller’ amount from this to find the total. Learners will need to move the total amount (of objects) counted into the first box (on the left) to the box in the centre to then ‘subtract’ the amount from there. Learners can draw the total number of objects left in the last box (on the right). There is a line underneath each box on which to write the numbers.

Resource Details Layout includes x6 rows of x5/x9 pairs of eyes from 0 to 100 counting in 2’s. x50 boxes each feature one pair of eyes and a large blank space under each ‘eyes image’ where the learner can write the correct 2’s number. Each row includes one randomly spaced ‘helping number’. These numbers are 4, 26, 36, 48, 80 and 100 to guide learners as they go. To increase the level of challenge for your learner/s these could be covered with a white sticker. This download includes two A4, portrait pdf sheets to make number fans featuring numerals from 0 to 10. Rainbow Version. Each number is a different colour - in rainbow colour order. What’s it for? This number fan can be used in various ways, including to play games. Learners can have their own number fan to reference while doing number work should they need help in writing numerals. The numbers on the fan can be taken off the ‘ring’ and used to order forwards/backwards or ‘label’ larger groups of objects which have been sorted and counted. They can be used to ‘show’ the answer to maths questions, rather than speaking. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. How to use this resource Number fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Number fans can be used as a personal reference resource for learners e.g. to help count and order numbers and/or cross-check the correct orientation of individual numbers if unsure when writing. Number fans can also be used for a variety of games and to accompany and involve learners during counting rhymes and songs, usable both inside the classroom and outdoors. The rainbow colours may help some learners not yet confident with number recognition, who know colours. E.g. if you ask, ‘Can you show me number 3?’ - this could be followed by ‘Can you show me number 3, the orange number? Suggestion Brightly coloured plastic keyrings (which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic) could be ideal where you wish learners to access the contents of the ring e.g. to order the numbers. Alternatively a short loop of wool/string could be tied/untied to achieve the same effect. A standard metal keyring works well as a more permanent ‘holder’ of the contents threaded onto the ring. I recommend that each number is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf. As on page 1 there is a number line reference at the top (showing all 10’s numbers in order to 100) - to support less able learners/learners ‘new’ to ‘counting in 10’s’. Page 2 This page includes the numbers ’10’, ’40’ and ‘100’ leaving x7 number gaps for the learner to complete. With three completed numbers to help this is the ‘least challenging’ sheet in this set. Page 3 This page includes the numbers ’20’ and ‘80’ leaving x8 number gaps for the learner to complete. With two completed numbers this sheet provides learner with ‘some’ support. Page 4 Answer sheet. This page is also the same design with ALL numbers completed - making the answers clear to learners. Learners could check their work themselves - encouraging autonomy. There is a space at the base of each sheet (left) for learners to write their name (by turning the page to do so). What’s included? Two resources (to be used together) are included to download, both in portrait orientation, pdf format. There are x7 sheets of ‘Counting in 10’s cards’ (x7 colours) and x7 matching ‘Counting in 10’s Matching boards’ to position the cards on in order and to count. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in Y1 and Y2 as well as older students needing additional learning support. This resource may be suitable as a challenge for some early years aged children. What is it? This is a simple activity which can be used by pupils on their own (as an independent group activity) or as a game for up to 7 players. This activity/game can be used/played in various ways to practise and reinforce counting in 10’s to 100. The simple, clear instructions are included on the cards and boards. Resource Details ’Counting in 10’s cards’ There are x7 different coloured sets of cards, these include red, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink and grey. ‘Ways to use these cards’ are included on each sheet. The cards can be cut out and used to practise ‘counting in 10’s’. The 10’s numbers on the cards are Size 50 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font making the numbers easy to read and the simple layout with ten fingers featured on every card make counting in 10’s visually clear to learners. ’Counting in 10’s - Matching boards’ There are x7 different coloured ‘matching boards’ which have been designed to pair up with the sets of ‘Counting in 10’s cards’. Colours included match the cards and are red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink and grey. Game instructions are included on each board. Games to play The cards could be used in a variety of ways. Below are some suggestions… Reveal, order, count The cards can be sorted into colours and shuffled. Each player has one coloured set. Cards are placed face-down in a grid (in the centre of players) and players take turns to turn over one card. If a player reveals their own colour that card is kept. The winner is the first player to collect all x10 cards in their colour set and position these in the correct order from 10 to 100. This game can be played with/without the ‘matching boards’. Treasure hunt These cards could be used for a coloured ‘treasure hunt’ where one set of cards is hidden within a specified area for learners to find. Learners then order the cards to 100 (once all colours in the set have been found). This pdf download includes x7 sets of counting in 10’s (circle) cards - x6 colours plus grey. Each sheet includes numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 and one ‘blank’ card in same style (for ‘zero’ or to replaced ‘lost’ card/s). Colours (and order) of the ‘Counting in 10’s cards’ are red (page 1), yellow (page 2), green (page 3), blue (page 4), purple (page 5) pink (page 6) and grey (page 7). These have been designed to be simple and ideal to use in various ways to practise and reinforce counting in 10’s to 100. Suggestions include: Game Each learner needs one set of coloured cards each. To play game circle cards can be sorted into colours and shuffled. Cards to be placed face-down in a grid (in random order). Players take turns to turn over one card at a time. Quality/durability will be best when printed onto ‘card’ (instead of paper) OR print onto paper, back onto card and laminate to keep for longer. This is a simple game for two players to reinforce 2D shape names and the number of sides each shape has. Who’s it for? This 2D shape name game has been designed for early years and pupils in years one and two as well as students needing additional learning support. How to use it? The game includes two boards on page 2 (one for each player) with a space for each player to write their names on the line above. All that is needed is a die (dice) and a pencil/pen (per player) to ‘tick off’ shapes (once ‘rolled’) OR game counters (included) - to place on top of each shape once ‘rolled’ can be cut out and used. One die is recommended (to ‘share’) to promote turn-taking. Clear game instructions are included on page 1 which players could be encouraged to read themselves before playing the game. What’s needed? One die to share or one dice each and a pencil each/game ‘counters’ - cut up (included). Resource layout The instruction text is size 14 ‘Avenir’ font. Instructions are included on page 1, the game itself (x2 game boards) are included on page 2. Recommendations For younger players having a set of these 2D shapes out while playing this game (to look at, hold and count the sides of) would benefit learners. This PDF has been designed to print and write-on. It could be laminated and a dry-wipe pen used to enable reuse and improve durability. Chunky sized dice are much easier for younger learners to use. Foam dice are great as they are really quiet! A shallow box, e.g. half of an empty cereal box laid flat on its back with front removed (ideally lined with a piece ‘felt’ fabric to absorb sound) to roll the die into could be used to avoid dice rolling away (e.g. off a table top). This should avoid any momentum of the game being interrupted while searching for lost dice! This download includes x4 landscape orientation pdf sheets. What’s it for? This is a simple game to play to reinforce knowledge of number bonds to 10. This has been designed to build on a learners knowledge and improve the speed of recalling number bond facts. Who’s it for? Designed for Y1 and Y2, suitable for Reception aged children. This is a two player game so ideal for a parent and child or support assistant and individual child needing some extra help in remembering these number bonds. However, once a learner knows what to do this could be played on their own/with a friend. Resource Details This is a simple, easy to play game to reinforce number bonds to 10 knowledge in a fun, easy way, perfect to play at a table/desk…or on the floor! Everything needed to play this simple game is included in the pdf and the instructions are clearly printed on the game. Of course these can be adapted to suit each learner as long as it is fun and they are learning that’s the key thing! There are two options when playing this game. Option one involves covering number cards with ‘cover cards’ and writing the number bond pairs down. Option two involves cutting up and pairing number cards. Both involve some cutting, only option one needs a pencil for each player. Recommendation Printing this resource onto card is strongly recommended. Printing onto paper could mean numbers are visible through the paper risking the game being ‘unfair’ (and who enjoys a game like that?!) To make the game last for years, print onto card, cut up pieces and laminate and store in a zip-lock wallet. If you do this and would like a matching label making for your storage bag - just ask!
