John Schumann's 'I Was Only 19' gives a narrative of a 19-year old conscript in the Australian Army in 1968-69, at the time of the Vietnam War. The song describes selection, training, experiences in Vietnam and reflections on the war after his return. The terms and concepts in the song are explained and are followed by a set of activities.
