This engaging and relatable lesson explores how emojis influence tone and meaning in everyday communication. Designed for Functional Skills English learners at Entry Level 3 to Level 2, it helps learners make connections between spoken and written language, tone, and the evolving role of digital communication. Learners will: • Examine how emojis can change the tone of a message • Explore appropriate and inappropriate emoji use in different contexts • Identify tone and intent in written messages • Practise reading comprehension and writing for audience and purpose • Reflect on how communication differs across formats (text, email, speech) This resource includes: • A visually engaging PowerPoint lesson • Differentiated reading tasks and discussion prompts • Writing task: creating a leaflet to advertise the use of emojis/ writing an article (depending on learners)
