KS3 History lesson designed for KS3 students (Year7-9).
This lesson’s objective is for students to discover what Roman Cheshire and Chester were like to live in and how the Romans had a positive impact in Britain.
This lesson tests a student’s ability to acquire research from different formats of information with engaging and interesting tasks.
Content includes the importance of Chester (Deva Victrix) as a majour Roman Settlement; as well as various technological advancements that improved Cheshire and established it as a wealthy and prosperous area of the Roman Empire.
Tasks include: Retrieval Practice, Diamond Nine, Image analysis, Research, Extended Writing challenge, Plenary.

KS3 Roman History lesson designed for Year 7-9 students.
This lesson’s objective is for students to delve into the ancient people of Rome and to understand how they lived their lives and how they created a powerful and dominant Empire.
This lesson tests a student’s ability to acquire research from different formats of information with engaging and interesting tasks. The lesson also teaches students how to categorise information as well as make a final judgement in deciding how Rome became so powerful with an extended writing piece.
Content includes looking at Roman architecture, Religion, Military and notable individuals like Augustus, Caesar and Hadrian.
What Impact did the Celts have on Cheshire?
KS3 History lesson designed for Year 7 students.
This lesson’s objective is for students to ascertain how the Celts influenced Cheshire with a focus on the Cornovii Tribe.
This lesson tests a student’s ability to acquire research from different formats of information with engaging and interesting tasks. There is a comparison task of the Cornovii and Iceni Tribes.
Content includes how the Cornovii influenced the Cheshire region and how the Iceni and Cornovii Tribes compared to one another being two of the largest Celtic Tribes around.
Who were the Celts?
KS3 History lesson designed for Year 7 students.
This lesson’s objective is for students to ascertain what kind of people the Celts were in Britain before the arrival of the Romans.
This lesson tests a student’s ability to acquire research from different formats of information with engaging and interesting tasks.
Content includes the importance of metallurgy, hill forts, war, religion (use of wickermen) and influence on language.
KS3 Viking History lesson designed for Year 7-9 students.
This lesson’s objective is for students to discover who the Vikings were, where in Britain they invaded; the significance of Danegeld and Danelaw as well as the effectiveness of King Cnut’s rule.
This lesson includes map work for Viking invasions, whiteboard tasks on the importance of Danelaw, a case study on King Cnut and a creative design task on Longboats! At the end of the lesson is an opportunity for students to write an autobiography as King Cnut and then with some knowledge check questions that could be done on whiteboards.
KS3 Anglo-Saxon History lesson designed for Year 7-9 students.
This lesson’s objective is for students to understand how the Anglo-Saxons settled in Cheshire & Chester. To understand the significance of Ethelfleda in Chester and also Offa’s Dyke and the Sandbach Crosses.
This lesson tests a student’s ability to acquire research from different formats of information with engaging and interesting tasks. The lesson also teaches students how to understand context by introducing the Mercia Anglo-Saxon Kingdom which controlled the area. It also looks at some interesting Case Study locations further building on knowledge from previous lessons in Chester as well as closer to Wales at Offa’s Dyke. There is an analysis of the Sandach crosses for students to complete as a relic /artefact task.
KS3 Anglo-Saxon History lesson designed for Year 7-9 students.
This lesson’s objective is for students to understand how the Anglo-Saxons came to live in Britain and what impact they had on the people that lived their, including understanding the concept of hierarchy.
This lesson tests a student’s ability to acquire research from different formats of information with engaging and interesting tasks. The lesson also teaches students how to analyse maps to discover why different Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms settled. Finally, the lesson provides the tools and research for students to understand the Feudal System that was introduced by the Anglo-Saxons and will ask them an extended writing question on this topic with scaffolding.
Complete with starter tasks and a plenary as well.
KS3 King Alfred the Great History lesson designed for Year 7-9 students.
This lesson’s objective is for students to discover how impactful Alfred the Great was to England’s future and how he made Wessex the most formidable Anglo-Saxon kingdom around.
This lesson tests a student’s ability to read interpretations and make judgements. It also teaches students how to judge and measure significance through Alfred’s strengths and weaknesses; finally assessing whether Alfred deserved his title as the ‘Great’ Anglo-Saxon King. The extended writing task is has scaffolding.
The lesson is complete with starter tasks and plenary tasks and comes with a Diamond Nine worksheet and information sheet.
This Bundle includes a scheme of 8 lessons which would last for a half-term on the Ancient world of Britain before 1066. This bundle includes fully completed lessons, including PowerPoints, worksheets / information sheets and scaffolding for students. There are some lessons that focus on Cheshire as a local case study and the impact that various civilisations had on the area.
