This lesson was put together with World Sight Day in mind, but could be used at any juncture in your programme. It deals with understanding around eye health, how to protect your eyes at work and study and consideration of careers around eye health. As part of this it is important that they understand the threats to the environment and how they can contribute now and as adults to exacting changes. This presentation is a complete lesson with optional discussion points, but can easily be adapted to be used for an assembly by taking them out. It outlines some of the King’s history and education, his particular interests and looks at the pomp and ceremony of the day. There are links to a couple of videos - the Crowning of his mother, giving some idea of what to expect and how to make the royal quiche. It allows opportunities to discuss the line of succession and the cost and benefits of such a momentous event, while also looking at the community events and impact. Osteoporosis Week comes at the beginning of June, but this could be part of PHSE at any juncture. The lesson discusses what the condition is and how it can affect the body, but also looks at preventative members and poses the question of why young people should be thinking of this/be aware now. In many ways it contributes to supporting a healthy diet and exercise regime, also highlighting the contributing factors of alcohol and smoking, eating disorders and steroid tablets. We want our students to go out into the world and make healthy and informed choices.
