NED Open Ended Continuous Provision Challenges for Year 2. Three sets - autumn term/spring term/summer term. These challenges become progressively more challenging across the academic year. They encourage children to explore all of the areas in the continuous provision. These challenges also develop the children’s ‘soft skills’ in continuous provision, for example sharing, turn taking, team work, collaboration and problem solving.

Key Stage One example curriculum slide - writing

These photos show our Year 2 learning environments, both indoors and outdoors. They highlight spaces designed to inspire curiosity, independence, and engagement as the children near the end of Key Stage One.

Our colour coded “Ask Me” stickers are designed to encourage children to reflect on and share their learning. When a child demonstrates skills in a subject during contionous provision (e.g., as a mathematician, scientist, or writer), they receive a sticker to wear. Adults then ask them about their achievement, reinforcing recall and confidence in their learning.

Each lesson where the children’s work is recorded in a book they stick in one of these stickers to show the success criteria for the lesson. This template is for 14 sticky labels per page. (2x7)

Help your children understand and embrace each subject with these clear, engaging subject statements! We use them at the beginning of each lesson. These statements support children in recognising the unique skills and mindset needed for different subjects, promoting a deeper connection to their learning.

Across Key Stage One, we use colour-coded slides to clearly present the learning objective, success criteria, and key vocabulary for each lesson. This consistent format provides children with a clear understanding of what they are learning, how they can achieve success, and the key terminology they will encounter. The familiarity of this structure is proving effective in reinforcing expectations and supporting engagement across all subjects. In addition, we incorporate subject-specific widgets on each slide, which help children quickly identify the focus of the lesson and develop confidence across the curriculum.
