This is a persuasive brochure for Hogwarts Castle Theme Park, written to demonstrate persuasive techniques. There are detailed teaching notes and a scaffold frame for children to write their own theme park brochure: a blank brochure with theme park pictures is also provided, if required. There is also an extension task to develop further ideas for the theme park website, which could be done as an individual, or group, speaking and listening or writing task. There are support planning worksheets, if required, to help pupils requiring more support.

This is a sports car advert, aimed at Upper Key Stage 2, written to demonstrate persuasive techniques, such as, imperative verbs and blinding with science. There are detailed teaching notes on the text and follow up writing task and a PowerPoint of persuasive techniques. There is a scaffold frame to support pupils with independent writing and a blank template for pupils to produce their own car advert, having discussed the advert provided. There is a connotations worksheet, looking at the use of animal names with powerful connotations used for car names. There is also a list of demonstration slogans from car companies. There are seven resources in all, including the advert written with a white background for improved printing. It is a comprehensive and fun way to teach persuasive writing.

Loads of fun advert for zoo resources that will deliver great writing and make children able to read and write adverts. There is a zoo brochure model text, purposely written to show persuasive techniques with a writing scaffold & teaching notes explaining the genre features to get great writing results. There is also a blank template of a zoo brochure for pupils to fill in. There is also a fun adverts PowerPoint that uses animation, so pupils remember persuasive techniques. In addition, there are guided reading learning mats for persuasive texts to structure discussion to de-construct adverts and brochures. Pupils learn adverts are constructed and they build the skills and strategies to de-construct adverts and to write persuasively themselves.

A structured comprehension on 'The Sea' by James Reeve and a word mat to prompt discussion of any poem. Suitable for upper KS2 and KS3. For differentiation, you can select which questions children complete, or for group discussion you can use the poetry word mat. The session started by discussing the poem and finding examples of poetic techniques, such as rhyme, alliteration, onomatopoeia, assonance and sibilant sounds. We discussed the change in the three verses. For extension, pupils could either write a river metaphor (see river metaphor poem ), or alternatively find points of comparison between the river and a different things (see worksheet).

There is an example of a holiday brochure tour of Egypt to demonstrate persuasive techniques, including the use of Imperative verbs and adjectives. Children then use the text and the planning worksheet to write their own holiday tour of Egypt. Pupils can use their own knowledge of places from their work on Ancient Egypt, but they don't need to, because places are mentioned in the example holiday brochure for them to use. Extension task - there is an example of an Egyptian holiday brochure, again written to demonstrate genre features and persuasive techniques. There is a scaffold frame, so pupils can produce their own realistic hotel brochures. There are also images included for pupils to add images to make their persuasive holiday work look authentic.

Meet Petobot - a voice activated robot toy. Pupils read an explanatory text of the toy, written to demonstrate the features of an explanatory text. Children are then asked to draw a design for a robot toy with any features they want. There are detailed teaching notes and both a scaffold frame and a SEN sheet to offer support so that children can write an explanation for how their robot toy works. There is a model text and also an annotated text showing text features.
