As a two form entry school, historically we used Sims to record behaviour both positive and negative. Following on from behaviour inset days and feedback from all staff the responses highlighted the system for recording was too long, quite time consuming and was difficult to analyse data.Ìý We identified that our recording was having very little impact on recognising the positive behaviour nor reducing the number of behaviour incidents around school. After a lot of researching other systems, we committed to using Class Charts as a tool for classroom management.Ìý
Class Charts has been a huge success and we have seen a reduction in the number of negative incidents and most importantly an increase in the recognition of positives. Class Charts feeds back to SIMs which was important for us as a school; a user friendly system that is straightforward and manageable. What we like about it most is the ability to share visually in the classroom setting with the children in the moment. Our children are excited to see their positives going up, they now strive to show our ‘Core Values’ and follow our ‘Golden Rules’ in order to be recognised publicly for going above and beyond. Staff find the system quick and efficient, especially as it can be accessed on iPad in and out of school. Reports detail quickly children who are showing regular incidents of dysregulation and teachers are able to use these to be proactive by looking at trends, seating plan etc.
Visual seating plans has been a great tool, this enables cover teachers to see who is sat where at a glance if the class is unfamiliar, setting the children into table groups for different lessons has also proven to be a hit with teachers as it saves so much valuable time.Ìý
There are many more features we have yet to embed but we are taking the transition of the system slowly and specifically to meet our needs. Training on the system was supportive and there are many help videos to refer to if the need arises.
