Introduction to Writing Play Scripts
This is an introductory lesson designed to show learners the key features of play scripts. The lesson covers the key features students need to know and finishes with a task designed to get students to write part of their own script.
A practical performing lesson could follow on from this lesson where students act out parts in each others plays or lead into students writing a full play script.
The lesson objectives are:
1. To explore the conventions and features of a play script.
2. To examine a play script
3. To practise writing a play script

Communication in Health
A PowerPoint featuring a full lesson with student centred activities to cover the following..
LO1: REFLECT ON YOUR OWN COMMUNICATION SKILLS
LO2: Identify the reasons for effective health communication
LO3: Explain the importance of effective communication in health and social care
Students will also be able to utilise presentation skills, note-taking and referencing skills throughout and was originally aimed at pre-university course learners.
You will need to have some coloured card of which you will cut each sheet into various regular shapes for students to participate in a silent jigsaw activity whereby they will only be able to use non-verbal communication. You will also need some case studies of cases of poor communication which fit the needs of your learners. These are easily accessible via the internet-if you need help, please contact me.

First Aid Awareness
This lesson aims to provide them with an awareness so they are able to answer theory questions. I then arranged for St John Ambulance to come in to deliver a basic first aid course to students to gain their certificate.
This could be amended to be delivered in tutorial or detail added to make it applicable to higher level BTEC or A-Level courses.
This PowerPoint contains activities on how to call 999 and what to say, DR ABC protocol, risk assessment, basic treatment of unconsciousness, burns, bleeding, fractures, anaphylaxis and choking.
Their are practical activities throughout with instructions which include scenarios.
You would benefit from basic first aid supplies e.g. gloves, bandages etc.
CPR is not included in the lesson content due to health and safety implications and not having access to a resuscitation mannequin at the time of delivery.
Teacher will need some basic prior knowledge to deliver this lesson.

Health Promotion
This is about 4 hours worth of teacher-led tutorial and student activities on health promotion.
Students will cover the following:
Healthy/unhealthy/risk taking behaviours
Why health promotion is used
Organisations on a local and national level which seek to promote health
Health Targets
Models of Behaviour Change
Health Promotion Activities and Techniques
Students will build on their research and evaluation skills.

Introduction to Organisation of Texts and Language Effects-2 Lessons
This powerpoint contains two lessons: The first is about raising students awareness of identifying organisational devices and why they are used. The activities within the lesson will be centred around the following objectives:
1. To consider why texts have organisational features
2. To examine a text and comment upon organisational features
3. To collate information about organisational features
Lesson two will be providing students with the opportunity to construct detailed PEE paragraphs regarding the effects that language can have upon on reader e.g. adjectives/noun phrases etc.
The lesson objectives for the second lesson will be as followed:
1.To consider the impressions created by specific words
2.To explain effects on the reader
3.To evaluate the effect of words in a text

End of Life Care Palliative Care
This is a whole lesson which was originally delivered over a 3 hour session but can be divided to make shorter sessions.
Students will explore a range of topics via research, discuss and debating activities.
Topics are as follows:
Euthanasia and the differences between the subtypes
Making Choices about end of life care
End of Life Policies

News, Current Issues, Media-Female Stereotypes-Dress Like a Woman, Trump
This lesson was inspired by the recent media coverage of Trump's comments to his employees regarding needing to "Dress like a woman'. This has lead to much debate on the news, internet, social media and so is a perfect opportunity to discuss why context matters when constructing an argument for or against an individuals comments, meaning of female and gender stereotyping.
This lesson enables students to voice their opinion in a safe environment, use debate skills to argue their viewpoint, research the meaning and context on the internet, discuss media influences on how events have been portrayed.
Students activities and extension activities have been included to provide an engaging session.
English skills, Equality & Diversity, British Values and Study Skills embedded throughout.
Applicable to a wide range of subjects.

Safeguarding
This was originally delivered over 2, 3 hour lessons to Access to HE students.
There are activities including; types of abuse, accessible complaints procedures, serious case reviews and an activity where students have to design a new Health and Social Care Service compliant with 51ºÚÁÏ policy.
Please note that this lesson is aimed at adult learners who have some prior knowledge of 51ºÚÁÏ. Furthermore, learners are expected to work as independent learners in the same way that they will at university.
You will require computers for your students in order for them to do some independent research.

Study Skills
A range of resources and lessons originally designed to go towards the Access to HE Study Skills unit. However, these could be ammended for other pre-university courses e.g. A-level.
Activities and guidance sheets include evaluation web pages, a library visit activity focusing on library research skills, time management reflection, CV writing, SWOT analysis production and some interview focused activities.

Smoking
Originally produced for BTEC H&SC, Unit 9, Level 2 but would also be suitable for GCSE.
Lesson was delivered in 1.5 hours with objectives as follows:
To describe how smoking can effect health
To explain why a smoker is at risk of diseases
Please note, the quiz I have adapted from elsewhere but all other activities are original.
Student activities include a smoking advert analysis, a paired extension activity where students investigate Cannabis, labelling physical and emotional health effects on worksheet provided, producing a warning poster/warning leaflet, starter activity and a range of other activities.

Road safety
Lesson on road safety aimed at KS1. Could be delivered prior to a practical activity/role play.
The aims are to make children more familiar with road signs, staying safe and understanding potential safe/dangerous places to cross.

Brazil, Comprehension, Online Research Hunt-Lets Visit Brazil
This lesson is based upon Brazil and has been written in a style which allows the students to explore the country.
They will be using their reading, research and ICT skills by finding out facts on the internet and recording them.
They will be asked questions which use their literacy/English skills, as well as comparing Brazil to their own Country- building up their awareness of diversity. Students will be looking at the symmetry of the Brazilian flag to enhance their mathematics/numeracy skills.
You may wish to use the accompanying handout for lower ability learners, but higher ability learners could be asked to record the information in a format of their own choice, in greater detail.
The lesson also covers locating Brazil on a map.

Feelings
Social Skills activity where students label the facial expressions with the correct feelings.

Infection Control
Leaflet Activity Handout which provides students instructions on completing a task on hand washing, uniforms, personal hygiene, PPE etc.
This was originally created for a year 9 LA GCSE Health & Social Care group but can be amended to suit other abilities/ages.
