This lesson explores the Christian attitudes towards war and looks at the Just War Theory. It allows pupils to explore the apparent contradiction in religion (‘Thou shall not kill’) with the Chrsitan support for wars. It is an interstimng lesson full of activities that gets pupils to empathise, but also reflect on what they value and what they believe to be true. An interesting, fast paced and challenging lesson.

This lesson investigates the assassination of JFK and gets the students to examine the evidence to try to answer the title question. This is an interesting and powerful lesson that gets students to challenge the official account and form their own theories as to what really happened in Dallas in 1963. A really good lesson.

This lesson is an introduction to the big six major world religions. The students have to make notes on the big six and compare and contrast them. It is a good intro to the unit exploring ‘Alternative World Religions’ (also available in my shop!) A fun and fast paced lesson that promotes independent learning.

This lesson looks at the dangers of smoking through a variety of activities. The lesson includes: -Powerful anti-smoking ads -What cigarettes contain -What tobacco does to your body -How to avoid getting addicted The lesson can be extended to two or three lessons by getting the students to make an anti-smoking poster or presentation.

This lesson looks at the reasons why it was so hard to catch Jack the Ripper. It looks at eye witness statements and all the contraditions. The students then have to draw up a profile of what they think Jack the Ripper really looked like.

This lesson looks at how to read climate graphs and what they can tell us about the climate in a region. It is compares and contrasts the wide varieties of climate in Africa to each other, and to the UK. An interesting lesson that introduces new skills and teaches the students more about the great continent of Africa. This lesson can be best described as interesting and useful.

This is a really good lesson aimed at getting the students to consider the evidence for life after death and to formulate their own opinion of what happens after you die. It asks the question: ‘What do you think happens after you die?’, it looks at possible evidence (including Near Death Experiences, Ghosts and Mediums), it also considers religious ideas about life after death. A really good lesson that will stretch and challenge your students. This resource also includes a starter and a h/w. It is aimed at KS3 but could easily be adapted for another key stage.

This lesson looks at the Rastafari faith and way of life. This lesson can be used as a stand alone lesson or as part of a larger unit on alternative religions (also available at my shop). It uses multi media to explore the culture and beliefs of people who follow the Rastafari faith, The students are asked to examine several of the more controversial aspects of the faith and consider whether or not they agree with the more traditional views and whether they fit into modern society today. An interesting and fun lesson.

This assembly addresses the gun epidemic in the USA, by looking at: -The history of guns in the USA -The causes of the gun problem -The NRA -Trump and the Republican party And causes for optimism for the future. It was written in the aftermath of the Parkland School Shooting but is just as applicable to any mass shooting in the USA (update in light of the tragic 2022 school shooting at Robb Elementry school). This is a well presented, well research, topical and very interesting assembly that covers the gun debate in some detail.

This assembly looks at the problem of Fake News in today’s society and the role it has played in several major world events since 2016, up to the present day (including Brexit, Trump, Wikileaks, Climate change denial etc.) The assembly covers what fake news is, the history of fake news, where it comes from, how it spreads and why it matters. It also features a quiz where the students will get the chance to see if they can spot the fake news stories out of ten unlikely sounding stories. Finally the assembly links fake news to gossip and rumours and gives tips as to how to spot fake news (both online and in the classroom). This is a fun but comprehensive assembly.

Here is a really interesting assembly for 2018 about Halloween. It cover history, traditions, customs, facts, and how to stay safe. If is an interactive assembly and asks the audience to participate (in a Q & A and a True or False Quiz). It also has an amusing section looking at celebrity fancy dress costumes and Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘We ate all your candy’ video. A fun and interesting assembly. Highly recommended for assembly or form time.

The lesson is the first part of the story of Moses It covers his early life, his escape from Egypt, the burning bush and his dilemma. This lesson is always well received by the students and has been rated as outstanding. A terrific intro to the Moses story and a fun start to a Judaism SoW.

This is an outstanding lesson that introduces the students to an alternative religion called Pastafarianism. It looks at how and why the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was formed, what they believe in and what the reaction to the religion has been. The lesson contains a number of activities including: True or False Quiz, Scavenger Hunt, Short video clip, class discussion and several thinking tasks. An excellent and fun lesson that gets students to think about what religion really is and why they believe.

This is a really interesting lesson that introduces the topic of Africa and can be used in a variety of ways. This can be used as a stand alone lesson, as part of a SoW on Africa/inequality/development or as part of project on Africa. This lesson challenges pupils perceptions of Africa and seeks to identify sterotypes and where we get them from. A strong and fun lesson.

This lesson looks at the effects of the crusades. It briefly covers the context of the crusades (what they were, when they took place, why they took place) The lesson has a variety of activities and encourages the pupils to think of both positive and negative effects of the crusades on Christianity and Islam (in Europe and the Middle-East) An excellent lesson.

This is the end of unit assessment for my fantastic places SoW. It is set up like a GCSE paper but designed for KS3 students. It includes a differentiated version, source booklet and mark scheme. This can be used and adapted to make your own similar assessments. A really useful resource.

This is a really interesting and well resourced lesson that investigates the Sahara desert and the challenges of living life in such a hostile environment, This lesson can be used as a one off (stand alone) or as part of a whole unit (such as my Fantastic Places unit, also available in my shop). A really interesting lesson that forces the students to use their imaginations, decision making and empathy.

This can be used as a stand alone lesson about Easter Island or it can be used in the Fantastic places unit of work (also available in my shop). This lesson looks at Easter Island and how the greed and stupidity of it’s people nearly destroyed the island. This is an important story and can teach us lessons about the world we live in today. The students will get a chance to practice their analytical skills and will have a deeper look at the history of Easter Island. The final task gets the students to use empathy to illustrate the key turning points in the islands history. This lesson includes a bell activity, a starter, main activities, plenary and homework. It also features differentiated activities for the less able. A fun and colourful lesson.

This lesson was a recommended resource by the TES. It is a fantastic memorable fun lesson where the students are challenged but have a lot of fun. King Charles II is dying, and only the expert knowledge of the best doctors in the UK can save his life. This lesson was created to be used in the Medicine Through Time SoW, but can be used with other year groups or as a revision activity. This lessons is a decision making exercise that builds on the pupils knowledge of Medieval medical treatments. Students need to use what they have learned to complete several rounds of a decision making activity to try to save the life of the King. Each round they are scored on how effective their treatment would have been. This is an excellent lesson as it is fun, memorable and challenging.
