Edexcel CC7b Allotropes of carbon. This presentation explores some giant molecular structures including diamond, graphite. fullerenes and graphene. It uses the structure to explain the properties and compare them.

This is a series of 10 question recall tests for use at the start or end of a lesson. This presentation includes quizzes on resultant forces, Newtons 1st law, mass and weight and Newtons 2nd law. At the end of each quiz is a slide with just the questions on so that they can be printed off and handed out to students as a starter whilst you do the register. The presentation then goes through each questions with the answer so that students can self assess. Alternatively it can be done as a plenary and you can rapid fire targeted questions just using the presentation

A stand alone presentation about writing word and symbol equations. This can be used during revision sessions or as part of topic Edexcel CC8 acids and bases. I have used it as a refresher at the start of year 11 too. The booklet that accompanies the presentation can be used in conjunction with the powerpoint or as a stand alone refresher/revision tool at any time during KS4. I often use it as a homework for year 11.

Edexcel CC10a Electrolysis. This presentation explores the apparatus sued in electrolysis and the terminology used. It explains why solid ionic substances can not conduct electricity and then takes higher students through the skill of writing half equations and using OILRIG to work out reduction and oxidation. IT also includes 3 differentiated worksheets.

Edexcel CC5a Ionic Bonds. This presentation usually takes about 3 or 4 lessons depending upon how quickly the students grasp the concept. It is worth spending time ensuring full comprehension as this is one of the fundamentals in chemistry. It starts by looking at how ions form, then moves onto drawing ions and ionic bonding diagrams ( dot and cross diagrams) Finally it ends by looking at charges on ions and how they link to the position in the Periodic Table. 3 differentiated worksheets are also included with this bundle.

I use this presentation for ITE students but it can be used equally for whole school training. It identifies features of good behaviour for learning (BfL). and considers different strategies for creating, promoting and maintaining good behaviour for learning and finally encourages you to reflect upon your own strengths and areas for development. The point of this presentation is to encourage discussion rather than be led by you.

This is a presentation I have used several times to good reviews for new ITE mentors. It introduces them to the idea of mentoring and what it entails. The fairy tale activity works really well with new ITE trainees and enables the mentor to really get an idea of how the trainee is feeling without it being personal. I have included 3 examples to look at but its much better if you get your own trainees to do one and use that as an example instead.

A stand alone resource that I have used for revision of ionic bonding. It guides students how to write the name of ionic compounds, how to draw ionic bonding diagrams and how to write the formulae of ionic compounds. There are 3 opportunities in the presentation for students to practice what has been taught so that any misconceptions can be addressed immediately.

A powerpoint to help students through the CC8c Core practical - Preparing Copper sulfate crystals. This includes setting the task, a method for students to follow and relevant questions to ask following the practical. The last slide is one I print off and laminate as an aid for students to keep or it could go on a display of core practical in the lab.

An introduction to basic quantitative analysis including making standard solutions, titrations and using titration results in calculations. The presentation can be used as a stand alone lesson when revising or used in conjunction with the booklet when teaching this topic.

This is the fourth lesson in a series of 6 lessons to introduce year 7 to Science. This lesson is titled ‘Visiting Variables’ and guides students how to identify independent, dependent and control variables in different scenario’s. The presentation is self explanatory and there is a series of 4 slides that I print out and laminate to hand out as part of the lesson. The next lesson is ‘Investigations’

Edexcel CC11b Metal ores and metal extraction. This powerpoint takes students through how the method of extraction of a metal is based upon the reactivity series. It includes information on 2 biological methods of extraction and also includes a differentiated worksheet.

Edexcel CC11a Reactivity. This powerpoint and differentiated worksheet looks at how we arrange metals in a reactivity series based upon reactions with water, acid and oxygen. It looks at displacement reactions and guides students to writing REDOX equations.

Edexcel CC9c Moles. This presentation guides students through calculating moles and number of particles in a substance. IT includes a differentiated worksheet as well.

Edexcel CC11c Oxidation and Reduction. This powerpoint introduces students to oxidation and reduction both in terms of oxygen and electrons. A differentiated worksheet is included to practice this skill.

Edexcel CC7c Properties of metals. This presentation explores the typical physical properties of metals and how the structure of metals explains these properties. A differentiated worksheet is included.

Edexcel CC6a Chemistry Covalent Bonding. This is a complete lesson on covalent bonding showing learners how to draw covalent bonding diagrams using the dot and cross method. It also includes a worksheet to practice this.
