Snakes and Ladders is an old family favourite but have you ever thought about using it in your classroom? The Back to School version of the game has versatility and can be used to support a range of needs and skills. There are two printable versions included in this download. The first version has numbers to 100 and the second version has numbers to 50. Learners will play the game the traditional way, however, rather than using snakes and ladders, children will slide down the pencils and move up the book piles. The differentiation in numbers makes it easier to support all learners and include them in fun and engaging activities.
Playing the game will reinforce basic number sense through number recognition, subitizing, counting to 50 and 100, counting forwards and counting back. On a social level, the game will help to develop skills in turn taking, sportsmanship and celebrating the successes of others.
Make math fun with this simple but engaging activity and use as part of your math centers, as small group work, intervention tasks and nurture activities.
You will receive a pdf which will give you instant access to both versions of the game.

The Rainbow Fish is a valuable topic to teach to any youngster and these no prep writing and reading templates are sure to keep learners engaged, whilst developing reading skills, vocabulary and writing ability with confidence. There are 3 no prep, writing templates with and without vocabulary to help children create writing and drawing around the story theme, whether itâs to identify character traits, to use as a story retell, or to write about their favourite part of the story, the templates will provide the opportunity for drawing and writing with good presentation skills.

Help your little learners secure number bonds to ten using these cute, high quality Rainbow Fish math flashcards and number mats. There are two sets of number flashcards included, a color version and a black and white version. These can be used in versatile ways, where children simply match a pair of cards to make ten, or use as a memory game where they reveal 2 cards to try and find a pair, using memory skills to see where each one has been placed. Print the color cards onto card stock and laminate for repeated use. The black and white version allows students to identify pairs that make ten, counting the scales on the fish if necessary, then glue into workbooks to show as evidence of their understanding.
The other activity includes a set of printable A4 number mats, where children count the scales on the fish, then use any materials, such as pom poms, blocks, paper scalesâŠ. to represent additional scales to make ten. They can then complete the missing number in the equation on the mat. These are color copies only and non editable but I personally would laminate them and use them repeatedly on math centers and as early finishing tasks with a range of materials.
These activities provide your learners with engaging tasks to help secure their knowledge of number bonds and counting to ten using a familiar visual tool to keep the learning in Kindergarten and EYFS fun!
