Two Powerpoint presentations (one with an audio recording by a native French speaker and one without) to help you teach and practise the Halloween vocabulary. You will also find two diffrentiated worksheets to practise reading and writing skills. I have also included a slide on some French phonemes.

Here is an assessment I have created to assess my primary children on their first unit of French. The powerpoint matches the assessment worksheets. It includes some writing tasks (1 short task: writing your name and age, 2nd task: writing name, age and how you feel using clues with support, 3rd task writing name, age and feelings without support), a listening task (using alphabet to spell name), another listening task on name, age and feelings.

These worksheets contain various activities (short writing task to start with, followed by a reading task and finishing with a longer reading task paired with by a true or false task). These worksheets aim at motivating lower ability that are interested in football. There is also a powerpoint to teach months of the year (with French celebrations) and numbers up to 31 to teach how to say when our birthday is. I have put the pictures from the worksheet in order to do one as a model with them and to correct them after.

This quiz contains 43 questions on French historical figures, landmarks, fashion brands, culture…etc. For each question there is choice of three or more answers. I have used it with my year 6 but it can be used with older pupils e.g. ks3 and ks4. I have also attached the answers sheet.

Here are two comprehension tasks I have created on la Nouvelle Vague. The reading comprehension goes with an article published on Lumni Enseignement. The listening task goes with a video which shows Truffaut explaining la Nouvelle Vague to the famous journalist Anne Sinclair.

Here are some resources I have created for very able French learners in to practise the -er verbs and ir verbs at the present. There are a couple a worksheet and some blockbuster games to play in class (with some challenging tasks, e.g. doubling the consonant with verbs like jeter, je jette).

Here are resources I created for my most able students. They were given various tasks to conjugate regular French verbs ending in -ir such as finir and choisir.

Here are resources I have created to practise -er verbs. You will find a worksheet which pupils can use as support to make sentences using various -er verbs and pronouns. There is also a 4 in a row template.

Here is a resources I created to challenge my more able pupils. There is picture first to describe. The information (adjectives, hair and eye colour, personality, job, hobbies and age) are in English and they have to write sentences in French to describe each member. The next task is a long reading task, followed by a table to complete. The third task is a translation. The final task is a faulty translation. They have to spot the mistakes and correct them.

Here is a worksheet I have created around the food topic, diet, opinions on food and drink. It can used as an end of topic activity to recap vocabulary. The first task is to use the information in English to write what members of a family like eating and drinking. The second task is a very long comprehension task where pupils have to read and scan the text to find some English words. They also have to find to tick the correct person for each statement. Finally there is a translation task.

Here is a worksheet I have prepared to work on French adjectives and agreement. Pupils will have to fill in a table modifying the adjectives to agree. Then they have to write the correct adjectives to complete the sentences. There is a game of ‘guess who’ to play with the class or with a partner. To finish the pupils have to translate the sentences

You will find various games (4 in a row, battle-ships and snakes and ladders in order to practise saying how you feel and why using adjectives, saying your age and name. For the 4 in row, I expect my pupils to figure what the visual cues means in French, to say what the emoji means in terms of feelings or to translate the French sentences into English and vice and versa. The language is based on Primary French Sentence Builders from Gianfranco Conti.

Here are speaking games I have created to encourage my young learners to practise their speaking skills. I follow the content of Primary Sentence Builders by Gianfranco Conti. I play these games as a whole class first (teacher vs children, boys vs girls so that I can monitor their French). I play these games at the end of a topic when the children are fairly confident with the language. You will find a four in a row/ connect four games on (basics French, how you feel and why using adjectives, stationery, places in town). You will also battle-ship games (ca va parce que je suis, pets and colours, places in town…to do with older children as it can take for ever).

Here are two powerpoints to explain and introduce key vocabulary about Easter in France and four worksheets which will cater for lower and upper ks2 children. I made these differentiated worksheets for my year 3, year 4 and year 5 children but they can be adapted for other years. One of the activities is a wordsearch. I haven’t attached the twelve they have to find. You can see the list on the year 3 worksheet.
