Two worksheets to practise using the verb etre at the present tense with different pronouns and adjectives. There is a also a speaking activity card game to be used in group or with a partner. Children have to translate into the French/ English. Suitable for upper keystage 2 children (year 6 or high ability year 5) but also suitable for Ks3 pupils (year 7, 8 and 9) who need to practise this high frequency verb.

Here are three listening tasks (two on the 2018 World Cup and one on 2022 World Cup). I have copied and pasted the Youtube link. This is an authentic resource made by the Federation Francaise de Foot. It gives the opportunity to engage pupils’ interest especially the boys’. The pupils will be able to see listen and see some famous players getting their lunch while doing this comprehension task. It offers opportunity to recap previous learning on food and greetings.

Here is a powerpoint presentation on rooms of the house with family members and pets. I made it as a guessing game to encourage my primary children to say where mon pere, ma mere, mon frere, ma soeur, mon chien and mon chat are (all the answers are on the last slide). I would use the battle-ship template or the worksheet (piece de la maison, famille and verb etre) as a written support to help them say correctly the sentence. I have included a lot of written support for my primary but it can be obviously be deleted and adapted for more confident learners. Attached to this powerpoint are some worksheets (differentiated) I made to practise writing and reading skills.

Here is another worksheet I have created around the World Cup 2022. There is wordsearch with the names of the countries in French. There is a grammar task (sorting them into masculin, feminin and pluriel category and using the correct article). Finally there is a task around colours as the pupils have to colour the flags and write down the country in French. I have attached the answer sheet.

Two differentiated booklets on French food and drinks. There is plenty of visual and written support for lower ability children and more challenging tasks for higher ability pupils. The booklet starts with two easy tasks of labelling the pictures and a wordsearch then gradually becomes more challenging as the children get to extend their writing skills. There is also an opportunity for the children to revise numbers and use them with food or drinks. I have also added differentiated reading tasks (for instance correct the wrong statements, read the paragraphs and answer the questions, a code to crack and a task on breakfast in different countries)

Here are various resources (a powerpoint presentation, an A4 sheet to laminate in order to draw correct number of candles to say the age, snap cards to practise counting, some bingo cards and a snake and ladder board to practise saying j’ai…ans). I created these two powerpoints, worksheet and snakes and ladders board game using famous football players in order to motivate my lower ability classes (heavy on boys mainly interested in football) and famous Disney characters and female players (girls). It can be used as a way to teach saying our name and asking someone their name, introducing French numbers up to twenty, saying how we feel and finally saying how old we are. I have included some tasks on the powerpoint that can be done verbally or on whiteboard to apply the rules (correct or incorrect, spot the mistakes). I created this support matt to work on basics conversation. It can be used for group or pair work. It covers the following topics: greetings, introducing yourself and your family, asking and saying your age or someone’s age, physical descriptions, describing your school uniform, saying the date, talking about your school subjects and giving opinions, talking about your classroom, hobbies, sports and and connectives.

Here is an assessment I have created to assess my primary children on their first unit of French. The powerpoint matches the assessment worksheets. It includes some writing tasks (1 short task: writing your name and age, 2nd task: writing name, age and how you feel using clues with support, 3rd task writing name, age and feelings without support), a listening task (using alphabet to spell name), another listening task on name, age and feelings.
