A-level Biology Statistics Worksheets: P-values, Null Hypotheses, Critical Values

(0)
Three worksheets designed for students to practice interpretation of p-values, writing a null hypothesis & selecting an appropriate statistical test (with a reason) and writing a conclusion based on selection of and interpretation of a critical value. FULL ANSWERS are included in the download. Wording of answers is based on past mark schemes wherever possible. If you disagree with any of the answers, please email me at teachsecondaryscience@gmail.com and changes will be made if needed. I use worksheet 1 and 2 in lessons, with students talking through the correct answers for revision (or they could complete the worksheet as homework on lined paper, these two worksheets don’t include answer spaces). The third worksheet is useful as a homework task in the run-up to the A-level exams & includes answer spaces. Worksheet 1: 10 questions Example question = A study investigates the effect of a new antibiotic on bacterial growth. The researchers calculate a p-value of 0.03. What can the researchers conclude about the effectiveness of the antibiotic? Worksheet 2: 8 questions For each scenario, students must write a null hypothesis, select a statistical test and give a reason as to why that test is appropriate. Worksheet 3: Three page worksheet consisting of 3 multi-part questions. The main focus of this worksheet is for students to practice selecting the right critical value from part of a critical value table & then coming to a conclusion based on whether the calculated value is greater than or less than the critical value. **PLEASE NOTE this resource DOES NOT include any questions which require students to perform calculations using statistical tests. **

Inheritance A-level Biology Summary Worksheets

(1)
UPDATED with coloured diagrams on answer sheets. Visually appealing worksheets covering the inheritance topic of A-level Biology. Designed with the AQA exam board in mind (incomplete dominance is not relevant to AQA, but has been included to allow teachers of other exam boards to use this resource - codominance and incomplete dominance are not the same thing!). Includes 7 worksheets covering: Multiple alleles Codominant alleles Incomplete dominance Dihybrid crosses Sex linkage Autosomal linkage Dominant and recessive epistasis Due the complexity of this topic, I find these worksheets are useful to introduce each type of inheritance, before moving onto exam-style questions. Also useful as a revision / homework exercise. All worksheets are black and white to allow students to add colour to the diagrams, a process which is thought to aid the formation of visual memories. Full answer sheets are included. Similar worksheets are available for: Cell structure Immune response Protein Synthesis Tissue fluid formation Carbon dioxide transport Respiration Photosynthesis Energy transfers Nutrient Cycles Receptors Nerve Impulses The Kidney Succession Epigenetics In vivo and in vitro cloning

OCR A-level Biology Required Practical PAG Revision Sheets

(0)
OCR Required practical revision notes/sheets covering the 12 PAGS required for A-level Biology. Please note, not all possible variations for each PAG are included, please see below for exactly which specific practicals are included. Despite being worth 15% of the marks, so many students don’t allocate specific revision time to the required practicals. I designed these sheets for my own students to encourage specific revision of the practicals and have seen a great improvement in practical knowledge and the ability to answer practical-based questions. Each sheet includes key information, an example method (where relevant) and most importantly, exam-style questions and model answers. The model answers for the exam-style questions have been written based on previous mark schemes, but I cannot guarantee that future mark schemes will be exactly the same. The model answers are for guidance only. Students should be encouraged to use these sheets as a starting point and update/annotate with any further information as needed. Includes: PAG 1: microscopy - root tip squash PAG 2: dissection (general practical skills/questions relevant to any dissection) PAG 3: sampling techniques PAG 4: rates of enzyme-controlled reactions (covers general questions on e.g. initial rate of reaction, DOES NOT cover specific enzyme practicals due to there being so many different variations). PAG 5: 3 different practical sheets included (factors affecting membrane permeability, determining glucose concentration & potometers). PAG 6: 2 different sheets included (electrophoresis & using chromatography to investigate plant pigments [paper chromatography method, not TLC]. PAG 7: Microbial techniques, 2 different sheets included (effect of antibiotics on bacterial growth & dilution plating to determine microbial density) PAG 8: Calibration curve to investigate water potential PAG 9: Qualitative tests for biological molecules PAG 10: Data logger & computer modeling (methods not included for this PAG, just key points from previous mark schemes). PAG 11: two sheets included (effect of exercise on heart rate & heart rate changes in Daphnia). PAG 12: research skills (rate of respiration example used - also includes common questions on respirometers).

AQA AS Biology Revision Questions and Answers Section 1-4

(0)
Over 475 revision questions & answers covering the AQA AS Biology specification. Based on past mark schemes (there is no guarantee that future mark schemes will be the same). Comprehensive resource useful for students to test themselves or to enable someone from a non-science background to test them. Please note that I can accept no responsibility for your final exam grade should you choose to use these revision resources. These resources are intended to help students actively revise, but students should be aware that a high proportion of the marks in your exams are AO2 and AO3 marks and students should therefore use a variety of resources and techniques in preparation for all of the question styles that will be encountered in the exam. Whilst these resources have been written with past mark schemes in mind, there is no guarantee that future mark schemes will be the same. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information in this resource, but I am only human, so if you spot an error, please email teachandlearnstem@gmail.com and the resource will be updated ASAP.

Meiosis Summary Worksheet AS A-level Biology
TeachandLearnSTEMTeachandLearnSTEM

Meiosis Summary Worksheet AS A-level Biology

(0)
Meiosis summary worksheets for AS / A-level Biology (process has been simplified to include only two pairs of homologous chromosomes). Students can cut out each worksheet around the dotted edge and glue/tape the sheets together to produce a large summary sheet covering the entire process of meiosis. PDF includes two versions: 3 page version which includes details on individual stages of Meiosis I and II. 2 page version (more suitable for AQA) that provides an overview of Meiosis I and II and does not go into details regarding the individual stages. I have included diagrams representing the chromosomal content of cells during interphase (both prior to, and after DNA replication). I have drawn the chromosomes in interphase in the same way as the chromosomes during the meiosis (even though in interphase, the chromosomes have not yet condensed), this is just so students can clearly see what is happening to the number of chromosomes. Both versions are designed for students to colour the chromosomes to represent maternal and paternal chromosomes (and also the results of crossing-over). Versions with completed text are included, if you are short of time and would like to provide the sheets as handouts instead. However, please note, students would still need to colour the chromosomes to represent the maternal/paternal chromosomes and the outcome of crossing-over. An example of completed colouring is included on the last page of the PDF. Also available as part of a meiosis bundle which included meiosis exam-style question worksheet & active recall meiosis flashcard activity.
