Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). This lesson pushes the basics of enzyme activity (denaturing, optimum pH, temperature, substrate concentration) It leads to a differentiated activity to help understanding for mid and high ability. The lesson concludes with an annotated exam question from the 2017 GCSE How Science Works questions. There is an exit tick plenary.

This lesson is designed to bring the fun back into a potentially dry subject. The lesson uses worms (sweets) to demonstrate how harmful and beneficial mutations alter the chances of reproduction. The lesson includes several thinking for learning activities. The lesson starts with a key word match up and finishes with an exit ticket to conclude learning.

Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). The lesson starts with a presentation focus to ensure the students show pride in their work. It then moves in to introduce the main cells of the lesson: cilliated epithelial, sperm and egg. After a brief introduction to these there is a ten minute Kagan activity where students can gather information about the cell before sharing with their group. This rolls into a true or false hinge point question to direct learning via differentiated association squares. The learners solidify their understanding with a Cloze activity before finishing with an exit ticket

Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). The lesson is a very challenging theory lesson based around enzymes. The lesson starts with looking at the enzymes and where in the body enzymes function. The pupils demonstrate their learning through a problem based learning activity where they look at case studies of enzyme deficiencies in patients. There is an exit ticket to finish.

Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). There is a focus on a creature called Demodex, a parasite that lives in 17% of the populations skin pores. The lesson stresses the differences an advantages and disadvantages of light vs electron microscopes. The lesson features a hinge question to determine students ability which leads into a Cloze activity for lower ability students or an open ended research task for the higher ability.

Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). The lesson requires microscopes and slides, it focuses on identify the difference between prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. The AFL component is a 10 mark hinge question this lead to a differentiated outcome depending on the score. There is an exit ticket at the end.

Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). This lessons focuses on osmosis and diffusion with the addition of active transport. There are multiple opportunities for differentiation already built in in a bronze, silver gold format. There are two hinge point questions that offer a really good AFL opportunity. The lesson requires potassium permanganate and a deodorant can.

Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). The lesson is a maths for biology focused lesson which involved a series of calculations for magnification (3 levels of differentiation) followed by a hinge point question leading into a series of calculations on scale and perceived size. The demonstrate activity is a student choice of difficulty to solve a biological problem. The lesson concluded with an exit ticket.

Electricity This mini scheme of work builds through the basics need for students preparing for GCSE science. It starts very basic with building series and parallel circuits and builds up to looking at currents and electron flow, topics necessary for the new 2017 GCSE. Lesson 1: Drawing and building simple circuits Lesson 2: Comparing series and parallel circuits Lesson 3: Comparing current and voltage Lesson 4: Experimenting to see how current flows Lesson 5: Conduction in different materials Lesson 6: Demonstrating learning with a team building challenge This resources has had over 12000 downloads on TES resources and rated 5*.

More lessons in the series are available on my premium resources - ScienceMastery The lesson starts with a series of questions to illicit prior understanding of the students. There is then an explanation of gravity and the calculations extensively modelled. After that the students get an opportunity to select from a series of tasks and opt to work, this is outcome differentiated via gold, silver, bronze tasks. The students then complete a hinge point question (AFL) that directs them to 1 of 3 differentiated tasks, there is a purple (high order thinking) task available for the students to move onto once their tasks are completed. The lesson concludes with an exit ticket and a rag of LO.

The lesson starts by identifying the key word ... cavity. The students then get to investigate how best to keep a coffee warm, this is then summarised by a worksheet. The Lesson concluded with an exam question specific to Edexcel 9-1. This lesson has been designed to start getting motivation back into a difficult year 10 class. It is one that I did not think was good enough to list on TES premium however it is not a bad lesson. For lessons with high quality AFL and differentiation inbuilt please view my TES shop: /teaching-resources/shop/ScienceMastery
