This product is copyright, all rights reserved. It is illegal to copy, rewrite, amend, share or distribute outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School / departmental licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Dominoes games are an ideal language learning activity, and a lively alternative to more traditional practice and consolidation activities. These games will help students build up and embed their knowledge of how to tell the time in Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino time sequence line. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading. There are three games, each with a slightly different level of challenge: = Challenge 1 features a range of clock times,o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour - students tend to learn those clock times first, so it’s good to have a real focus on them to ensure students are confident with the general concept of telling the time in Spanish. The dominoes feature en punto to express o’clock, but it’s useful to point out to students that it’s not absolutely necessary, and they’ll see Es la una for example, perhaps even more frequently than Es la una en punto, which tends to convey a certain emphasis. The time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. = Challenge 2 features a range of all analogue clock times, and is a slightly longer game than Challenge One. Again, the time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. = Challenge 3*** also features a range of analogue clock times, and is the same size as Challenge Two. In this challenge, the clock face appears first, followed by the time phrase, which works slightly differently on recall, and really does help to consolidate knowledge. There’s definitely prep involved - download, print out, and laminate. Laminating is definitely worth the extra time and expense, because the dominoes are far more learner-friendly, and will last in excellent condition for years. The background design on each challenge is different, allowing students to identify which challenge the individual dominoes belong to. A whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in French. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents, such as the silent x on the plural of cheval : chevaux, as this is really useful at consolidating accurate French pronunciation. There are 25 animals featured in the game: bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit : sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle All the animals may not be in your immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply learning or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practising particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too. The images are essentially visual prompts and clues, helping students infer meaning from context. The longer and more complex sentences really help students focus on reading out loud accurately, and think more carefully about language, and how to pronounce it correctly. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time, and a successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary. Task / challenge cards are an ideal language learning activity, and really help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The set is ideal for whole lessons, and individual questions work really well as bell ringers / starters. The focus is French numbers 0-21, which is usually described as beginner French vocabulary, particularly for very young students. The questions however are aimed more at advanced beginner French students, rather than infant / kindergarten age, as some of the calculations / sequences may be beyond their arithmetic skills at this stage. Students may not yet have engaged formally with the range of language in the questions, though they will be able to infer meaning by looking closely for near-cognates such as pour cent or thinking a little more laterally, for example working out that a cinquième is a fifth. This makes the questions generally more comprehensive and engaging than a straightforward practising numbers activity - they provide students with an opportunity to both practise familiar language and to actively engage with, and learn, new language. It’s useful to read through the questions as a whole-group first, to ensure that everyone can engage fully with the activity. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards - laminate if possible, as they will remain in excellent condition for years. Print, laminate and distribute single pages, rather than individual cards, as this saves prep time = answer key - this can also be laminated, and shared among groups of students for class work = recording sheet - simply print as many as your particular groups need. Students generally use their class workbooks for working out and noting responses, though recording sheets are definitely useful for more formal assessment purposes. = numbers 0-21 in French reference list The LIvely Learning Classroom offers a wide range of French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 30 French Christmas words, which will also help to develop students’ awareness of some French-speaking countries Christmas traditions and figures, such as galette des Rois and Père Fouettard, which is translated here as Father Fouettard, rather than Whipping Father. The vocabulary is really useful for stimulating discussion about French Christmas practices and customs. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow. The vocabulary list features the definite article, though some grids also have the indefinite article / plurals for additional challenge. Grids 1-4 are French-French, where students are prompted with the French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list to complete. Grids 5-8 are English-French, where the prompts are given in English, and students look for the French translation in the grid. They also write the French translation of the English word. Grids 9 and 10 prompt students with a specific Christmas image, and they look for the corresponding French word in the grid, also completing a French vocabulary list for additional consolidation. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers, or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches and answer keys are in portrait format, with arrows indicating in which direction the individual words are located. There is an alphabetical French-English Christmas vocabulary list which students find really helpful. There are two formats: search grids and answer keys together, so that they can be printed out and copied double-sided, and search grids / answer keys as separate files.
