A PowerPoint resource for Seamus Heaney’s Blackberry-Picking. The poem is broken into small pieces and explained with key words underlined with several questions posed to students. The meaning of certain phrases in the poem is also explored for example Heaney’s personification of the blackberries.

Advertising PowerPoint for Year 7’s to give them an insight into some of the techniques used within advertising. The lesson includes going trough the basics such as terminology and also embedded YouTube clips embedded showing certain TV advertisements which can be used for Q&A sessions. You can choose your own logo’s for the final pair exercise depending on your class.

An interview lesson for a mixed ability group of year 7 students introducing them to the poem. The lesson opens by tapping into students’ initial thoughts of what things they do during Half Term Break (Mid Term Break). This, similar to the poem allows the students to empathise with Heaney through analysis of the poem through Q&A discussion and a main exercise which asks students to find poetic techniques.

This lesson analyses Elizabeth Bishops ‘The Fish’ regarding themes, metaphors, similes and more.

This is a PowerPoint that I used with a mixed ability Year 7 group. This could also be used with a year 6 group in Primary. This is a lesson where students really enjoyed the mixture of many activities that get the best from students and is student-led. This PowerPoint lesson is in relation to mainly chapter 3 ‘The Snatch’ but also refers to previous chapters. The main activity within this PowerPoint is where students use their imagination and put themselves in Sophie’s shoes and use the ‘negative feelings’ sheet to help them describe when The BFG took them. It also has a PDF of a ‘Missing’ Poster that students can do in class or for homework.

A differentiated recap on Blood Brothers. The resource includes 2 seperate worksheets: One for mixed ability for written answers and the other for lower ability which asks multiple choice questions.

This lesson starts by taking students real-life knowledge into account by starting the class by asking students to write how the weather outside makes them feel? The lesson then builds on this knowledge by giving students extra information. The main activity is to read a chapter from The Hobbit where pathetic fallacy is used.

A PowerPoint which studies key scenes that Lady Macbeth is involved in as part of an assessment question. There are questions embedded within the PowerPoint and also analysis of extracts.

This lesson was an observation lesson for performance management to a group of Year 7 students who are studying Gothic Literature. This lesson can also be used within a creative writing unit. The lesson is structured in a way where students are given awareness of the impact of short and long sentences. There are also multiple hinge questions and plenaries to assess the learning before completing the final task which is then peer assessed.

This Lesson focuses on students’ first impressions of Lennie within Of Mice and Men. It will be clear to students that appearances are deceiving with Steinbecks use of language and the reality of Lennie’s character. In this lesson we look at both Lennie and Crooks in chapter 4 whereby Lennie has entered Crooks’ stable and why this is significant. We see a power struggle between both men where Steinbeck is questioning societal norms in relation to racism and those who were looked down on by society. A summary of Roald Dahls short story ‘First Day’. This have been used with a mixed ability Year 7 group after we worked on an a piece of writing about their first day in seconday school.

Within the starter, students are asked about their own desires which links to the story by Guy de Maupassant. As this was the first text from their Exedcel coursework, the structure of the coursework is explained before reading the text. The analysis of the text is mainly student-led where students are to search for language and structre in pairs.
