Spanish Food and Shopping WebQuest OpenCor 18 Questions and Sketch - Your students will enjoy this inquiry based web assignment in which they explore the Spanish convenience store OpenCor. There are 16 questions or tasks for them to complete, including a map sketch showing where OpenCor stores are located. Students must navigate the OpenCor website to answer questions, translate merchandise words, analyze credit card and employment pages, and more. The website is entirely in Spanish. Students are instructed to supply answers in Spanish and English. This is a fun activity for partner or individual work and is a great way to incorporate technology, culture, and language into a lesson. Students can use computers, iPads, or other devices, and this makes a perfect self paced substitute lesson plan. Most questions should apply regardless of changes on the OpenCor website. However, since the possibility does exist that changes could affect the activity responses, an answer key has not been included.

Spanish Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos Fallen Phrases - This activity provides a unique way for students to write Spanish sentences that utilize common Day of the Dead vocabulary (pierced paper, bread of the dead, cemetery, food, photo, altar, marigolds, family, sugar skulls, etc.) and the verbs gustar and encantar. There are 7 sentences to translate from English to Spanish. The words of the sentences must be written inside of "fallen phrases" boxes that resemble a crossword. Students get feedback as they complete the assignment because only correct words will complete each "fallen phrases" box. The answer key is included.

Students research several areas associated with holidays and festivals celebrated in Spanish speaking countries. The areas are date/s, food, events, music and dance, location, religious celebrations, countries that celebrate the holiday, and history of the holiday. Students write a letter to Santa that explains their behavior and tells him what gifts they would like him to bring. There are 48 vocabulary words in Spanish and English to assist students in their letter writing. Included are words about behavior and many gift vocabulary words such as cell phone, clothes (there are 17 clothing words), books, toys, video games, skis, etc. The quantity and variety of vocabulary makes it easy for students to complete their writing assignments and makes this item useful for all levels of Spanish. A one hundred word essay works well for first year students. The word count can be changed for other levels and varying ability levels.

French Thanksgiving Foods Bookmarks With and Without Vocabulary Words - There are 5 different designs of these Thanksgiving bookmarks. One page contains bookmarks with Thanksgiving words and one page has images only. The images only version gives the option of having students write the vocabulary words for a little extra practice. Each bookmark contains Le Jour de l'Action de Grâce and 5 clip art images. Vocabulary words include turkey, rolls, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie, corn, cranberries, stuffing, sweet potatoes. Just copy, cut, and share with your students!

One booklet contains text and images, the other contains text only so students can sketch and create their own versions of the booklets. Each booklet contains 8 pages: the title page with La Primera Semana de la Escuela, one page with yo so students can sketch themselves, and 6 additional pages describing things that are new to students at the beginning of the school year. New things included are: my teacher, new friends, my classroom, the playground, the cafeteria, and the library. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first read and cut out the booklet that contains text and illustrations. They then sketch and create their own version using the text only template. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text.
