I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.

Spanish Food and Shopping WebQuest OpenCor 18 Questions and Sketch - Your students will enjoy this inquiry based web assignment in which they explore the Spanish convenience store OpenCor. There are 16 questions or tasks for them to complete, including a map sketch showing where OpenCor stores are located. Students must navigate the OpenCor website to answer questions, translate merchandise words, analyze credit card and employment pages, and more. The website is entirely in Spanish. Students are instructed to supply answers in Spanish and English. This is a fun activity for partner or individual work and is a great way to incorporate technology, culture, and language into a lesson. Students can use computers, iPads, or other devices, and this makes a perfect self paced substitute lesson plan. Most questions should apply regardless of changes on the OpenCor website. However, since the possibility does exist that changes could affect the activity responses, an answer key has not been included.

Students research several areas associated with holidays and festivals celebrated in Spanish speaking countries. The areas are date/s, food, events, music and dance, location, religious celebrations, countries that celebrate the holiday, and history of the holiday. Included: 1. 15 different templates, each with a different holiday and the categories listed previously. This is a fun investigative activity for students that can be completed in Spanish or English. 2. One template without the name of a holiday or festival to give you the option of adding more of either. 3. Page that includes several suggestions for using the materials such as a Foreign Language Week activity, Spanish Club activity, or just a homework assignment, to name a few. This has been used very successfully as a substitute teacher lesson in the computer lab. It's a great research activity for use with iPads or other tablets. The holidays can be researched one at a time over a period of several weeks which makes this a download of 15 assignments, or you can divide and distribute all 15 different templates and have different students working on different countries at the same time. 19 pages

One booklet contains text and images, the other contains text only so students can sketch and create their own versions of the booklets. Each booklet contains 8 pages: the title page with La Primera Semana de la Escuela, one page with yo so students can sketch themselves, and 6 additional pages describing things that are new to students at the beginning of the school year. New things included are: my teacher, new friends, my classroom, the playground, the cafeteria, and the library. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first read and cut out the booklet that contains text and illustrations. They then sketch and create their own version using the text only template. The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the vocabulary. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text. This is a fun back to school activity for students that they can take home at the end of the week, or the booklets can be kept in the classroom and given to them at the end of the year so they can see the progress that they've made throughout the year. 6 pages
