A simple resource to help support children’s 7 areas of L+D whilst exploring their outdoor environment. Physical Development: Children can develop both Gross and Fine motor skills using this resource simply pop the sheet onto a clipboard allowing the children to tick off each item as they find it. PSED: Children can develop social connections whilst using teamwork to work together to find each item on their list. The benefits of being outdoors also help with emotional regulation for the children boosting overall wellbeing. Communication and Language: Children can develop their communication and Language skills by working with one another and talking about what they can see, smell, feel, touch and hear. Mathematics: Children can count the objects that they find along the way, they can use their shape recognition to identify shapes in the natural environment ( “look there’s a Berry that looks like a sphere” ). Literacy: Adults can enhance children’s vocabulary throughout this activity by discussing what they see around them, for older children this is also a great resource to support reading and writing skills staff can work with children to write what they found during the scavenger hunt. Understanding the World: A fun and simple way to help children connect with the world around them, completing the Seasonal scavenger hunt allows children to see the changes in the environment around them. Expressive Arts and Design: Children can be encouraged to draw what they have found during their scavenger hunt, they can collect what they have found and use resource to create art work, or even encourage roleplay allowing children to be an explorer for the day.
