This is a unit of work based on the story of ‘The Rainbow Bear’.

Teaching slides, text and worksheets. Some lessons have written task and some do not. If you wanted to create a written task, use template from another task and a question from the slides.

10 reading lessons for year 3 based on 2005 publication of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Lesson slides and resources. Focus on whole class reading, teacher modelling and vocabulary.

1 week teaching sequence for Me and My Fear focusing on prediction and explanation. Lots of themes to draw from this text, particularly useful when a child arrives in class from a new school.

2 lessons focused on ‘Freedom Bird’ by Jerdine Nolan Meets the objectives: Can comment on the success of texts in provoking particular responses (e.g. anger, sadness) Can discuss the message a text has about our society, a particular culture, or traditions from the past.

Unit of reading planning for Malamander Based on 1 chapter per lesson to last 16 lessons. Can be edited and changed to suit needs of the children.

Complete lesson using an extract from the secret garden to identify figurative language for year 5 reading. Scaffold sheet provided along with challenge questions.

This unit of work is based on a narrative inspired by ‘The Freedom Bird’ by Jerdine Nolan. It contains planning, slides and resource sheets used in my class. They will be editable to suit the needs of your classroom.
