A handy revision sheet with the conventions of each transactional writing type on there. The back of the sheet has suggested openings and closings for students.

A short presentation that structures discussion around spotting the differences in two images and then making inferences.

A revision mat to help students to get their ideas down on paper. An alternative to use instead of the regular PEE. It has a specific focus on language and the effect that the writer may be trying to achieve. This worked especially well with my more able learners.

This presentation goes through possible scenarios/descriptive writing tasks and gets students to think about taking ownership over their writing and making it as creative as possible. This is all done through image stimuli. The first few slides asks students to assess strengths and weaknesses on another student response, to use these slides you will also need to copy your own student response.

Some visual cutouts to make a display based on Dickens' A Christmas Carol. I put this up on a blue background with white at the bottom to represent snow. I then put black borders over it to make it look like a window looking out. Make this even better with gold wrappers from chocolate coins to represent Scrooge's counting house.

You will also need a past student response to aid this PowerPoint Students will 1st work identifying elements that are successful in the student response and filling out the grid Then, move onto thinking about the task title - in this PP it is to describe the scene at a park There are some images to get students thinking creatively and imaginatively Students should then aim to write at least one descriptive paragraph by the end of the lesson

A series of cards for students to match the structural device to its definition.

A quick revision sheet with the different writing forms on it annotated. A visual revision sheet to demonstrate to students the correct layout of each writing form.

Introduce your students to descriptive writing with this visual aid There are a range of images to be printed out I stuck the images on A3 paper - one image per sheet The students, in groups, then had to have a go at adding adjectives, verbs, similes etc to describe the image ****No book marking involved!!!

It is an 8 week scheme that eventually leads to an empathy style task, which can then be marked for reading and writing It begins with a Summer Transition Project - The transition sheets will need printing on A3 and then taken out to the pyramid/feeder primaries It comes with a full mark scheme too

A fully resourced scheme of work with the theme of 'The Supernatural' The scheme is aimed at KS3 and teaches the skills of letter writing to argue The scheme is extremely engaging and there's lots of interesting materials It has been created to support the changes in the National Curriculum It's an eight week scheme with a PowerPoint for every lesson There's also a keen focus on progress and lots of AFL in there too

A colourful multi-paged revision task booklet. There are many tasks/revision questions on each page that can be used for students to complete as homework tasks, classroom tasks or simply for revision. All ideas are linked to what may come up in their exam.

This lesson looks at a past exam question that focuses around the songs and music in the play Blood Brothers. You can access the CD for the songs for free on YouTube to accompany this lesson.

This lesson helped me to achieve and outstanding for a recent lesson observation. The PowerPoint looks at an empathetic style exam question and then there is a group work activity. The group work activity is set up so that you have a different character at each different work station, with different questions to get students to think and empathise with each character. Once downloaded, it is really simple to follow.

Exactly as the title says - I used this with my bottom sets.

The 1st PowerPoint can be delivered in a number of ways and there are many questions based around the main characters that enable learners to empathise with them. The 2nd PowerPoint then focuses on the female characters and the planning and writing of an empathetic response. This could possibly be used over 3 lessons.
