Give your students the tools they need for tackling long division The new Common Core Standards for Math prompted me to create this Decomposing the Dividend Strategy pack for use with students and with parents. The Decomposing the Dividend Strategy encourages students to break the dividend into parts that can be divided easily. The long-term goal of this method is for students to solve the division problem mentally. In my experience, it will take a great deal of practice before students will master the ability to solve the problem mentally using this method. I have found that many higher achieving math students will pick up on the strategy and choose to use it. This packet contains: • A tri-fold fold-up (front and back) that shows how the strategy works. It would make a wonderful resource for both students and parents. • A 2-sided practice page as well as a detailed answer key. Pokey Porcupine provides a fun way to practice math skills! This Pokey Porcupine card game allows students to practice making metric conversions while playing a friendly game of Poke. In addition, the cards could be by individual a student at their desk. Be sure to check the preview for the types of questions students will be asked to solve. The set contains: • 36 poke cards. • Instructions for assembly. • Instructions for game play. • Answer key.

Turn to Learn task cards are fun to use because students love using a QR code reader to check their answers. This product contains: • 24 Task Cards. Each card asks the student to determine what percent one number is of another number. Please see preview page to see an example of the problems. • 24 cards with a corresponding QR code. The QR codes are the answers to the problems. • 2-sided work space recording sheet that students can use to solve the problems. Students needing more space will have to use their own paper. • Traditional answer key for those not wanting to use the QR code component. To Assemble: Print off all task card problems. Then print the QR codes on the back side. Be sure the Question numbers match up. I like to run task cards on card stock and laminate for durability. Cut on dotted lines. Put cards in sequential order, with cover and directions on top. The margin on the left side of each card is for binding (or hole punch). I prefer to bind. How to Use: Students use the 2-sided workspace recording sheet to solve each of the 24 questions. Students then use a QR reader to check answers as they go or after they’ve finished a predetermined amount of questions.

Students tackle fractions with confidence while using Fraction Attraction resources! This packet contains: • Fold-up One explains and shows an example of how to divide a whole number by a fraction, how to divide two fractions, and how to divide mixed numbers. • Fold-up Two explains what a reciprocal fraction is and how to write a reciprocal fraction. • Fold-up Three explains how to change an improper fraction to a mixed number. • A full-sheet handout. This handout contains the same information as the fold-up , just in a full-sheet format. I find this format works well as a quick reference sheet. In addition, many students like to take it home and share with their parents. This page could also be made into a poster. For information on how to make posters be sure to visit my blog post. • Four one-sided worksheets designed to help students practice the various types of dividing fractions problem types. • A cut and paste page to practice reciprocal fractions. • Answer keys for all worksheets are also included.

"I Have, Whoooo Has" is a fun game that can be used to practice a variety of skills. This pack includes THREE sets, all designed to practice the math skill - Changing mixed numbers to improper fraction and improper fractions to mixed numbers. Note: Set three does require some fractions be simplified to caluculate the final answer. Each set includes 24 cards. Also included are card covers. I usually run a cover on the backside of each card. This allows me to easily keep sets together and not mixed up. Plus, it adds some color to the game. If colored printer ink is at a premium, you can choose to run the black and white cover instead. Again, this will allow you to keep the cards in the proper set. You can play this game whole class by distributing cards to all students. Note that some students may have more than one card. Next, the teacher prompts the student that has the first card to start by reading their card. Students will have to determine the next number in the sequence. Whichever student has the card with the correct answer will read theirs. And so on. The game continues until the last student reads their card, "I have the last card!" Another alternative to playing whole class is to play it with small groups of students. The process would work the same way, however each student would have multiple cards. I like playing it this way even better, because it really keeps the players on their toes. So, in my room, this is usually an activity that groups of 6 or 8 play. Now, since you have 3 sets with this purchase, you could have three groups of 8 playing at once in your room. As I said, if a player has multiple cards, they have to be paying attention. Let’s face it we all know that many students will be less attentive once they have read their card.

Help you students master metric measures! Converting Metric Measures can be challenging for many students. I created this packet with those students in mind. Included in this packet are two fold-ups. The first fold-up is a tri-fold fold-up which when assembled lists the metric measures for length, capacity and mass. The second fold-up is a matchbook fold-up. This fold-up explains how to make conversions between two metric measurements. Two examples are also give. A 2-sided practice page is also included. The questions on the practice page are written is such a way that requires the students to show their thinking while solving the problem. An answer key is provided. I also included two pages of pictures and instructions on how to assemble the fold-outs. These materials are aligned to Common Core Standards required for 5th grade.

Students love fold-ups! This product includes: • A six flap fold-up that classifies triangles by their angles (right, acute and obtuse) and by the length of their sides (equilateral, isosceles and scalene). A definition and a visual representation is given of each. • This product also includes two 2-sided practice pages and answer keys. Always make a test copy before copying for your students to make sure the cover and inside fold up properly. Note that the cover is intentionally upside down for easier printing.

This Place Value chart contains Millions thru Thousandths place value. Each page contains 2 charts. I like to laminate several of these for use in small groups or at centers. Students can write and wipe various numbers for place value practice. I hope you enjoy this free printable.

The purpose of a ‘We Flip for Math’ Flip Book, is to provide a struggling student with a step-by-step guide to take them through the process they are struggling with. The complexity of some skills can be quite challenging for many students. Being able to remember all the steps can become overwhelming. A flip-book can help walk these children through the process. In addition, I have found flip-books can be helpful when sending homework home. Including a flip book can make for very happy parents! This free flip book is a ‘three-in-one’ flip-book. • Section 1 provides a step-by-step guide for multiplying a fraction and a whole number. • Section 2 demonstrates how to multiply two fractions. • Section 3 focuses on how to multiply mixed numbers. Students Calculate & Clean their way to practicing math skills! With Calculate & Clean your students are able to practice their math skills. Students calculate and write their answer with a dry-erase marker, check their answer and once finished, they clean the card! I began creating the Less Paper Classroom product line after seeing a need for a true digital product I could use in my own classroom. I believe being completely paperless is an unfair expectation for any classroom, I do believe, however, that using less paper can be achieved, and this product is designed to allow the teacher to do just that. This product includes 25 full page PDF solve cards. Each solve card features a multiplication equation (a fraction times a whole number). In addition, each solve card is followed by a full page PDF check card. Each check card features a large QR code, which should be able to be scanned from anywhere in the room if projected on a classroom display screen. Once scanned, the QR code reveals the correct answer. Also included is a traditional recording sheet and a traditional answer key. One huge benefit of a less paper product, is that after downloading the classroom teacher has literally no prep at all. How cool is that? The zip file contains several different file formats. Choose the one that best suits the many ways you plan to use them: Both Solve and Check Cards, Solve Cards Only, Check Cards Only. I have also included a page describing several ways I have used these cards in my room. While this product was designed to be used on a tablet, iPad or projected on a classroom display like a mimeo or a smart board, you could certainly print it out and use it in a more traditional way if you like.
