Martin Luther King's assassination
This is a simple lesson that looks at the assassination of MLK. Using visual and video sources it asks students to reflect on the event and what they tell us about the importance of Martin Luther Kings influence.
This lesson links with the divided union GCSE text book: the book is a useful if not necessary resource.
Evil and suffering in Buddhism
This lesson explores Buddhism’s response to evil. Students consider the Buddha’s teachings on what constitutes evil and the source of the problem. This lesson always stimulates lively discussion with my students.
Capital punishment
Intro to capital punishment. This lesson looks at what capital punishment is and the reasoning for and against it.
Students reflect on a series of high profile case studies and consider whether they feel capital punishment can be just.

Multi-faith societies
Lesson focus’ on whether or not multi-faith societies lead to a decline in religion.
Uses case studied to help students recognise some of the complexities of maintaining religious adherence in a multi-faith society.

Evil and suffering - Job
This lesson introduces students to the story of Job as a ‘solution’ to the problem of evil and suffering. They learn the story and reflect on its strengths and weaknesses as a solution to the problem of evil.
Bundle
Easter
This bundle comprises of three lessons complete with lesson plans. The trio begins with a lesson on Lent which urges students to reflect on the practice of fasting and abstinence before moving onto a lesson on Holy Week. This lesson draws on the Biblical events of the last week of Jesus’ life. Finally the Easter lesson focus’ on the symbolism of Easter day and concludes with a comparative exam question which reflects on the Easter and Christmas festivals.

This lesson introduces students to the key events of Holy week.
Includes a card sort, freeze frame activity and exam question.

Easter
This lesson follows on from the Lent/Holy Week lesson (also available). It draws on a range of activities card sort/word association/video clip to help students consider the importance of Easter as a Christian festival, the symbolism involved and the intrinsic link to Spring.

The Jewish Diaspora
This lesson explores what is meant by diaspora. I have always used this lesson with ethnically mixed classes which certainly helps with the starter activity. The lesson looks at the history of the Jewish Disapora and reflects on the unique nature of Judaism as both a religion and an ethnicity.
This lesson is suitable for mid-high ability students. It will need differentiation for weaker students.
Different types of family
This is an introductory resource to support students in exploring and understanding different types of family unit. The lesson includes starter, main and plenary activities, the corresponding worksheets for which are included at the end of the powerpoint.
This lesson was developed for a class of year 7 students who have additional learning needs, however it can be used for KS2 classes or developed for more able KS3 classes.
Christianity and bullying
This lesson considers Christian teaching on bullying. It is a well structured lesson with a range of activities.

Buddhist festivals
Vesak and dharma day
This powerpoint covers both Vesak and dharma day as two individual but short lessons which are aimed to take around 30 mins each. It can be adapted easily to be used as two distinct full lessons.
The dharma day lesson has a good SMSC quality.
Theories of punishment
Intro the ideas of reform, protection, deterrence and retribution. Contains a game as a starter which encourages students to reflect on a variety of crimes, the punishments administered and why as well as a main task that requires them to think of the logic and theory behind different theories of punishment along with their strengths and weaknesses.

Lamentations - Remembering the destruction of the Temple of Soloman
Students use a section of Lamentations to consider how important the destruction of Solomon’s Temple was in Jewish history/to Jewish identity. This is a creative lesson with a literary focus. It has differentiated resources and is SMSC driven.
Believers Baptism/confirmation
This lesson explore what confirmation is and the problems associated with teenage rights of passage. It includes discussion, written and role play exercises.
Islam and War
Explores the theses of Islam and war including the ideas of greater and lesser jihad

Pollution
This is a simple lesson that requires students to use the information in the edexcel (Religion and Society) textbook (or another source) to create a presentation on the various forms of pollution.
Islam and Stewardship
This lesson explores Islamic teachings on Stewardship. It also reflects on campaigns that have focused on environmental issues and asks students to create there own with a religious spin.
