This survey shows how not to do it! A great lesson for students to see that even adults make very silly mistakes and a real confidence builder for them to note how they could do it better. This resource now includes a detailed lesson plan and Worksheet for making your own survey.

I made the original worksheet about 3 years ago and staff keep on requesting copies of it. It's a very simple sheet to explain how to design a good quality PowerPoint Slide. I've added a PowerPoint presentation with the answers and a simplified lesson plan. I hope its helpful and please adapt as you wish.

This is a complete BTEC Unit 2 including the assignment and Scheme of Work. It has been used and moderated in the past. I hope it is useful. If you update it, please let me know and I will repost or link to the updated version. There is also a link to a complete lesson on OS, which could be used as part of the unit.

This little activity gets students to think about different audiences and how to make an appealing logo. It also allows students to look at the difference between Vector packages and bitmap packages. As an extension students could also animate the logo. (The activity can be done by hand as an alternative.)

A complete lesson with Slides, handouts, exercises and plan. This is one of my favourite lessons, because it opened up my students' minds to the fact that there are more OSes than just Windows and MAC OS.

This shows how easy it is to animate images in PowerPoint taking away much of the difficulty that animators would have had in the past. (The Movie is supposed to be silent, because not all my PCs have headphones.) Also in Office 2010 you can record a narration and save it out as a video. This could then be uploaded to a video site or shared with children at a local primary school. (For older versions of office you could use Camstudio to record the video.)

This little platform game uses the least code, I could possibly get away with. Nice for newbies to code a 'Mario' style game. Also my students tell me its actually quite a challenging little game. Easy coding doesn't necessarily mean an easy game...

This little spreadsheet exercise helps students to know where cells are and they then colour them into make a Santa. This is ideal for low-level KS3 students or KS2 students to help them map cells to places on a spreadsheet. (I still can't believe how quiet it kept the year 8's whilst they did it.)

This little lesson encourages students to design their own magazine cover and think about what is required to make something that is attractive enough to buy.

This project is designed to help students to think about the safe use of Social Networking sites in the guise of designing a leaflet for parents. Very useful, especially for year 9's who believe that they already know it all. Once made, sometimes the students create quality projects that are worth sharing with the parents. This project does NOT require any direct access to Social Networking sites, so is useful for schools who block Facebook etc.

This lesson shows students how to do effective slide builds for presentations. This is an important skill when presenting slide shows to slowly reveal information and keep the audience interested. This could also be used in English as part of their Speaking tasks.

This can either be done as an ICT exercise to create the spreadsheet and/or database of cards or as an English exercise to encourage KS2 students or weaker KS3 students to create cards for a new roleplaying game.

This video shows you how to cut out an image and use it for a magazine or digital media. (Used Photoshop Elements 9, but the tool is available in Photoshop and most graphics packages)

In my role as Internet Safety Officer, I originally did this presentation for an assembly, but have since used it to guide parents. As a workshop with questions it takes about 45 minutes, but as an assembly you might need to take out some of the slides to fit your assembly timings. There are notes in the slides if this is being presented by somebody who is not technical and the aim is to encourage discussion between parents and children.

This package has everything you need to teach how to make a CD / DVD / Games Design lesson. This was originally done as part of ICT, but crosses over nicely into Design & Technology or Art. This lesson shows how professionals make slides that are consistently excellent via the use of Master Slides. It includes a lesson plan, videos examples of how to layout Slide Masters and a couple of links to Youtube if you don't know how to use this feature of MS Office. This technique is very useful for the Edexcel GCSE and as a general skill in KS3.

This is a starter for Computing Teachers teaching Linked Lists. It is based on a Find Someone who and enables you to do a wonderful unplugged activity.

Maths Activity suitable for KS3 and KS4. Just because Excel can create a graph, it does not mean it is the right graph to use. This lesson shows students how to choose the right graph for the right situation and exercises for developing those skills. If you are kind then you can let students use the Excel file.
