Fact or Opinion Mystery Activity Why not make teaching fact or opinion a bit more fun? his upload is a fact or opinion mystery activity. In this reading lesson activity, students must solve the mystery to work out which suspect stole the head teacher’s chocolate bars! Throughout the activity, students will be given sources containing evidence (facts). These take the form of diary entries, a newsletter extract and even a wanted poster! Students must identify the facts and not get distracted by the opinions, which are also hidden in there. By gathering the facts, they can exclude suspects from their inquiry. If you’re looking for Y6 SATS revision for ordering the events of a text, then look no further. There are 5 fun stories included in this order the events booklet. There are then 2 order the events questions for each story (so 10 in total). Ordering the events is an important reading comprehension skill and one that the children are usually required to demonstrate in Year 6 SATS. Also included is a guide to remind pupils about the steps that they need to take in order to order the events. This could be enlarged and put on a display or working wall to remind pupils how to order the events in a systematic way. The order the events stories and worksheets are arranged in a booklet, making it perfect for a homework activity or for a supply day as you near SATS. It means that you can just print and go. Ancient Egyptian Deities Poems Comprehension This Ancient Egyptian deities poems comprehension reading and history activity includes four poems about Ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses. Each one then has a set of questions for pupils to revise their knowledge of each deity. This also gives pupils the chance to practise their reading comprehension skills. Deities covered in the poems are: Anubis, Bes, Osiris and Ra. The cross-curricular nature of this activity means that children will be able to practise both their history skills (learning about Ancient Egyptian gods) and reading comprehension skills at the same time. The comprehension questions include retrieval and inference questions and also author’s intent and vocabulary ones. There are a mix of circle the answer, one word, one sentence and longer answers. Some questions require evidence from the text. All answers are included (sample answers where more than one answer would be acceptable). Want to teach your Year 6 pupils how to avoid common errors when answering inference questions? This PowerPoint goes through three common SATS inference errors, one by one. There’s plenty of change to practise, with two texts (and sets of questions) per error. The errors covered are: Not using the clues (not using the evidence to help answer the inference question Short answers (missing key parts of the answer and, thus, missing out on marks) Dangerous general knowledge (using general knowledge in a SATS answer, rather than using the text to answer the question). **Are you looking for impression questions practice for your Year 6 class? This set of 5 stories and 10 impressions questions will help them to practise this tricky skill. **The children must find two impressions about each of the given characters in the story. The story has been written to highlight particular characteristics, which will help them to grasp the skill. Year 6 children can read the 5 stories and then answer the impressions questions. They are required to give evidence to support their impressions, in a 3 mark question style. Sample answers are then provided. Two impressions are given as answers. Teachers can accept other plausible impressions, as long as the two impressions are different from each other and they have evidence to support them. This Year 6 reading SATs author’s purpose PowerPoint takes pupils through the process of answering authorial intent SATs questions. There is then a modelled answer, showing the author’s intention question answered using the steps. After this, there are four texts (two stories, one poem and one non-fiction text) so that pupils can have a go at author’s purpose questions independently.
