This is an A Level vocabulary list based on the second topic in theme 1 (Edexcel specification). It is not a long one, just a few words divided in three categories: adjectives, nouns and verbs. There are also some translations into English and into Spanish so that students can put those words into practice. It can be used as homework or as support for less able or disorganised students.

Looking for different ways to help students, I saw on Twitter the idea of a ladder reflecting elements needed for grades. It starts with an easy present tense sentence and finishes with a sentence which includes an indirect object pronoun. It can be used at the start of a lesson, to test how much students know on a particular subject or can be given as homework for students to work independently. Content is based on Pearson Edexcel’s GCSE theme 1: Who am I? As part of Theme 1 (La evolución de la sociedad española) in the Edexcel scheme of work, I created this two-hour lesson to discuss the role of grandparents. Plenty of authentic materials: a reading, a listening (created from a podcast seen in RTVE) and a translation (from El País).

A lesson after which students will be able to describe what an ideal friend is. All exercises are explained in each slide with great detail. Writing is the main skill practised.

This worksheet includes: 10 short paragraphs about why learning another language is important 5 follow-up exercises with instructions in Spanish to test students’ reading skills and one exercise to allow students to write their own opinion about why learning a language is important, using the vocabulary seen.

This resource explores the reasons behind Spain’s Civil War. There’s information on the Second Republic (reforms), violence after the elections in 1936 and Mola’s Golpe de Estado. Listening, reading and translation skills and some questions for students to reflect on and give their opinion in speaking. I created this ppt to get my students to practise vocabulary on the topic of holiday. I used it with a Year 11 group, but it can be used with a high ability Year 10 as well.
