This 5 page projects for Upper KS2 guides the children through the process of generating an idea for a business and then discovering whether it is profitable. It has a strong maths focus, but ends with the children having to create a presentation for potential investors. This could be completed in class over several lessons or be given as homework.

This has been designed for Year 6 and includes 5 mini comprehensions with short extracts from The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Each Comprehension fits on a single side of A4 paper and has 4 questions. These ‘higher level’ comprehensions require the children to… …use inference and deduction …back up what they are saying using quotes …answer ‘find the word’ or ‘find the group of words’ questions …identify why the writer has written something in a particular way There are absolutely no basic recall questions!

This is ideal for years 5 and 6, but it could be adapted to be used with Year 4. This includes planning for six weeks - 30 days in total. The format I have used is as follows… Monday - Discussion / Short Writing Tuesday - Reading Comprehension Wednesday - Grammar and Punctuation Thursday and Friday - Longer Writing Writing genres included… -diary -letter -story from a different point of view -speech -newspaper report -play script You can easily copy and paste the ideas from this planning into your own format if you want to. It includes an Additional Activities Ideas Sheet with three ‘surprises’ for the children after the book has been read AND 9 pupil worksheets.

This is a four-page project for Upper KS2 about a man who disappeared in 1876 and then reappeared in 1950. It is based on a real event - although the children don’t find this out until the end! Year 5 and 6 children will enjoy making and using these SPaG Fortune Tellers. Only reveal one of the mystery letters to you opponent(s) if they get one of the questions correct. Once they know all of them - they can be rearranged to create a SPaG related word. Three totally different fortune tellers are included and each one includes instructions. It might be over 50 years old, but this film truly has something for everyone. It is also very useful to look at what people are really thinking which can feed into their writing. This resource includes 32 activities / points for discussion (including 6 writing activities) for the first 1 hour and 45 minutes of the film. I would not suggest that you use all of them, but choose the ones you like the most. I would also suggest that after the Intermission the children should just watch the last hour or so of the film uninterrupted. I have not included any activities for the last part of the film. The times of relevant scenes are included throughout this resource so you can locate them easily. You could easily use this as a basis of your literacy for a week - perhaps more. The children start anywhere on the grid and include that word in their first sentence. They then move horizontally or vertically to choose the word for their second sentence. They need to plan their route carefully and try to use as many of the words as possible. All the words have been carefully chosen from the year 3 and 4 word list. Do you need a really good writing example to inspire your pupils? This opening paragraph for creative writing sessions (or for homework) includes well structured sentences. This worksheet gets the children to search for determiners on a grid. If they find one, they colour it in. Finding all of them will reveal a letter of the alphabet. The children are then asked to think of as many determiners that start with that letter.
