Protest Theatre KS3 Drama Cover Lesson

(0)
Versatile Drama cover lesson for KS3, based on Protest Theatre. Has options for practical or classroom work, with slides for both. Worksheet included. Classroom lesson includes opportunities for video clips (I used Bread and Puppet Theatre Co but any protest theatre clip would work) and a task planning a scenario for a protest theatre play. Practical lesson includes group task to devise a short protest theatre piece on a topic of students’ own choice. I used this lesson with Year 9 really effectively but it would work for any KS3 group.

KS3 Drama Devising 2-Lesson Project

(0)
This is a 2-lesson devising, script-writing and performance project for KS3. It is great as a filler, when you have some spare lessons. Students will work in groups to create a scene located in a haunted house. All the instructions are on the slides; there are tips on characterisation, use of drama techniques and rehearsal skills. There is also an alternative written lesson, if practical work is not an option.

Anatomy of Comedy KS3 Drama Written Cover

(0)
Classroom cover lesson for KS3 Drama based on understanding how comedy works. Includes full slides and a worksheet. You will need to add video clips; links are suggested. The lesson includes a classroom discussion on ‘what makes something funny?’, guided analysis of two comedy clips (Mr Bean and Michael McIntyre), then research into different features of comedy. There is plenty of work to fill a cover lesson when you aren’t able to include practical work.

KS3 Drama Classroom Cover: Drug Driving

(0)
A Drama cover worksheet on drug driving. This lesson has a variety of learning tasks, including research, case study analysis and a creative task to design a campaign against drug driving. I used this with a Year 9 group but it would work equally well with Year 8. Students will need access to computers or other resources to complete the research tasks. Ideal for a lesson where you are not able to set practical work or if there is no specialist teacher available. Could also be used as a PSHE resource.

Pentatonic Melody Cover Lesson for Year 7 or 8

(0)
A worksheet containing a practical keyboard task suitable for a standalone or cover lesson for Year 7 or 8. The tasks ask students to identify the notes of a simple melody (there is a help section on the sheet), then introduces the idea of pentatonic melodies. Students learn to play the piece in pairs, adding a simple drone or ostinato accompaniment. The extension task then asks them to create their own pentatonic note bank and use it to create a new melody. This will easily fill a cover lesson and can also be used for instruments other than keyboards.

Practical Programme Music Cover Lesson

(0)
This work sheet has all the instructions for a standalone or cover lesson on programme music. It explains the terminology and gives a definition, then sets a practical task based on a choice of three stimulus ideas, including one image. There is no need for notation and this will suit any variety of instrumentation or technology. There is enough work to easily fill a lesson and an opportunity for students to show their work at the end, if your circumstances allow that.

This one-off worksheet gives a lesson of revision for KS3 students, helping them with notation and listening skills. It has all the questions on it and requires you to be able to play or tap out rhythms to them. Theory covered includes pitch and rhythm notation, as well as adding bar lines and dynamics. There is a help section, so it is suitable for all learners, not just those who are confident with notation. Perfect for when you are not in your usual room!
