I’ve seen a few questions in recent exam sittings where frequency tables have a missing number and students have to work backwards so I did a short (three questions) worksheet on that using mean, median and mode form frequency tables.

Eight problems involving fractions and/or percentages to get students using their skills outside of a worksheet or text book exercise on it. This is designed to get them thinking about how to use certain skills.

My classes can “do” ratio, but can they do it when it’s in a different context? Here are eight problems involving ratio for students to puzzle through.

Eight question on Data/Probability that Charlie has done incorrectly and needs to check; can your class do them correctly and point out Charlie’s mistakes and why their answers need checking over? Topics include averages (including tables), probability (including tree diagrams), cumulative frequency and IQR.

Eight questions on various algebra topics: solving equations (including simultaneous), inequalities (representing in a number line), equations of lines, plotting curves, expand and simplify, sequences. Charlie has two attempts at each question but gets them wrong; can your students spot the mistakes and explain why Charlie should have checked their answers? ie. why are the answers clearly not correct?

Worded questions regarding similar shapes and their lengths/areas/volumes (this does what it says on the tin); answer correctly to reveal the punchline…

Nine gradients each revealing a letter to give the punchline to a cheesy joke. I suggest printing in A4 so it is more easily seen (A5 will almost certainly be too small unless your class routinely brings a magnifying glass to lessons).

Check Charlie’s solutions to eight different questions (Charlie has had two goes) and state why Charlie should be checking it and what they have done wrong. There is also space for students to complete their own solution (hopefully correctly). Topics include fractions (mixed numbers), percentage change, ratio, LCM, compound measures, proportion. These are designed to create discussion.
